There are a handful of reviewers out there who actually do rate tracks without reviewing them. :P

Well, personally when I was a member I'd rather just have ratings than those reviews. Always made me sad. They was like change this this this this this this this this and this, despite that I clearly stated I don't want any reviews (I know my music has problems, but I rather wait until my ears has developed to tell me something is wrong).

Don't misunderstand me, reviews are good though (not for everyone, but generally they are).

reviews are for the artist to improve, while the rating is for the listener to decide what song to download. So perhaps not a bad idea, at least for the artists who prefer to improve from other things than reviews. But I know we're quite a minority.

Anyways, personally I would consider putting my music back to CTG if the "please do not review" option disables the possibility to review, not just displays the text that most people don't read. I'd welcome ratings only. A low score wouldn't hurt me at all, and it's nice for the listener to know what songs to pick.

Please don't kill me for saying this though. It's only my opinion, not more or less worth than anyone else's. I'm just speaking for myself and the way I feel about things. Besides, reviews is often a good thing for most artists.
Fortunately, my music is much more interesting than my posts.

I was thinking... TiS had that, OSmusic has it too. Comment for the reviewers (could be under a link next to the review box). I think that may be good.

What is a review? Normally, it's evaluation that's supposed to be addressed above all at the potential listeners. Here, it's also feedback for the artist, with tips, suggestions etc.

In case of Nifflas it is clear that no tips are necessary, but then, his songs (if they were still on CTG) could be reviewed in the first way - just for downloaders. There would be no "change this this and this" or "try that that and that", just: "this song sounds like this and this and this and that's why it's so great". An artist could tell the reviewer: "I don't want tips coz I know what I'm doing", or "I'd like to know how to improve every little detail, coz i'm new to this, please help!"

Such a "message to reviewer" option would be a very good idea actually. For example, while I personally don't find it problematic, I agree with nifflas that it's not much point in getting suggestions how to improve the actual compositions when one has put a lot of thought behind everything and done things certain ways for a reason. If anything, it would make writing reviews a bit easier (sometimes at least), as less time would be spent on writing things that wouldn't be useful to the composer anyway (though of course, it shouldn't be possible to ask not to get feedback that would be relevant for potential downloaders).

well, I must say I don't put thought into everything I do, and there are a lot of points I need to improve on. Sometimes I get very useful critism at #modarchive, which have often made me change things in my music.

But misunderstand me wrong - such feedback is something I like to receive only from people I know, who shares the same ideas about music as I have, as well as know a bit about how I think.
Fortunately, my music is much more interesting than my posts.
