I think only artist should be able to review songs. Only an artist knows the ins and ous of making music which makes an artist thé person who can judge a song on it's good and bad things. Non-artists for instance do not know how hard it is to put a good filtered or cut-off effect in a tracked song, so parts like that will automatically not be judged on it's true value by non-artists.
On the other hand non artists dó have a realistic/fresh opinion on the song seen as a piece of music ( not seen as a technical piece of art like artists often do ). Non artists judge on : How catchy is the melody, how heavy is the basskick, how cool are the vocals and what do they say, can i dance on this one, or wow..i can play this one very loud on my big brother's hifi set..
So maybe somehow there should be a way created for non artist to express their opinion on a song, because in the end music is most listened by non-artists. Maybe the review of a non artist should be presented on the site, just like the "regular artist reviews"...only  .....let a non-artist review weigh less heavy in the total score of a song ( maybe 50% value or less?). Just a hunge offcourse....maybe it's an idea to discuss or even to consider.
How to do this? Well create a small button in which the reviewer can choose between artist/non-artist. This offcourse can easily be frauded, i know.......but one should allways approach matters like this in a positive way i think

I voted only artists review, but that's not because I dont think non-artists are qualified to review. I think non-artists, quite often, can write reviews that make a lot more sense than artists do, purely because they write from a perspective of "whats good, and what isn't?" rather than artists thinking to technically rather than just looking at how good is it.
The reason why I voted artists only is because this site, as all other music sites have been, will be plagued by people cheating the system and writing reviews and voting for themselves. If you only allow artists with at least one track uploaded to grade/review, then at least you'll minimize that cheating. |

You're right. The listener is never qualified if they can't make music, the football fan can't watch sports if they can't kick, and you can't fart if you don't have an asshole.
Anyone is qualified to have an opinion and sometimes the naive are the best to express it.

I voted YES.
Why? 'cause I know people who can NOT review. I mean : reviews must be long, and take a loooong time to write it. I guess that some non-artists could review,yes! But I prefer the artists. That's the way I think.
BTW : acecream's idea is a good one, like Keyz said! |

ok new system is 50% done now.
It will work like this:
all registered members can write reviews which will stay the same as now (0-5).
Non registered members or people who dont want to rate will be able to write just a comment about song.Those comments wont be limited per person and also artist will be able to remove comments if they wont like them.
reviews will not be removable. |
