How about...
Michael Nyman - The Piano
Last Of The Mohicans
John Williams - Star Wars
and of course Gladiator & the LOTR trilogy are both excellent!
I went to see a performance of the LOTR trilogy music last year actually... and it was amazing.

Yeah, live performances (hell, of anything) are quite special, aren't they? I remember when I went to a performance of The Planets. It's a lot more special with real people doing it in a real venue, which has it's own characteristics.

Well, maybe James Newton Howard's Snow Falling on Cedars soundtrack is the closest to my taste, especially the track called Typing
I like Hans Zimmer's work as well, apart from his neurotic battle themes... and Howard Shore`s Concerning Hobbits from LOTR is quite some splendid stuff

The answer Gopher has been looking for: Joe Hisaishi - Kikujiro, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky. Brilliance personified.
Hans Zimmer of course, as well as Danny Elfman, John Williams, Howard Shore, Ennio Morricone, Alfred Newman. I want to talk to you about film scoring on IRC some time Gopher |

John Williams - Across The Stars (Love Theme) from SW episode II. I'm seriously thinking that I'll use it on my wedding...

Yann Tiersen's "La Valse d'Amélie" instantly jumps to mind
as well as Jan A.P. Kaczmarek's "Children Arrive" from Finding Neverland
and, how lame..Vivaldi's Four Seasons Summer Presto. Bam! I say!
Also really like Hans Zimmer's work, especially on Gladiator
but somehow John Williams just don't work for me ..
