When a musician decides to perform live, the most important thing is to have a total technical and musical overview of what will he do on the stage.Since there is no way to delete a false note that's already been played or go back and do it some other way, you - above talent - need serious preparation and knowledge about what you are doing.
This article might help those who want to do a live act and they dont know how.

Sorry to say, but I have feeling that this article doesn’t really give anything useful info what you don’t already think when you plan to go live, or maybe good point is to have CD with you in case that everything does go wrong, and it happens time to time, believe me
First what I can think of is that is good to have few own D.I.’s if you have many synths because if you have some real instruments there, usually you get one mono output, own small mixer is also good to have around. It’s also possible that you need 4 D.I’s for one player (example one laptop and one synth), so if you have 3 guys there, you probably need atleast 12 D.I.’s.
2nd thing what I think of is that small PA’s doesn’t handle that low bass that well, if you have big strings in your mix or something like that, it’s probably going to sound muddy. All cool reverb/delay effects can also make things worse, and of course they sound more better at your home.
Although is important that all your hardware is safely placed, you are happy if you have any table to your laptop in the first place.
Well, I could go on and on, but there are as many different situations than there are gig’s or players, so I think that making all around useful article is impossible, but I guess this can be usefull to start thinking things…

Yeah, nice article. Live act, in any genre, is a complicated thing. I did live act in a blues band, and I never forget that we had to stand 3-5 mins without electricity with a few thousand people audience. It was horrible.

Samplers are used widely on gigs, so the manufacturers are creating these more simple and gig-friendly.The Ensoniq ASR-X - and its pro version - with the serious RAM, SCSI interface, ROM sounds, pads, built-in sequencer and the externally usable effects processor is the perfect weapon. |
Okay, if someone needs one, I have one for sale. Mine is not a perfect weapon, but the standard one without too much ram and scsi.

hmmz... I've never done a live electronic act, but I've mixed acoustic ones and it seems like this article is more or less on the ball. The key is rehearsal rehearsal, even of the boring parts like setting everything up (And tearin down to make sure you can get out of the place on time)
edit: Blah, this reminds me I might have to play piano live tonight

The digital sample players are not good for live acting, not even if they have "live" control interfaces. They will always have the static noise. |
I think you mean sound over there... static noise is what you get with the snow-screen on tv.
And even then this is not true there are a few multisampled samplers which trigger different samples for 1 sound, which makes it sound very very real.
Upcoming releases:
Storyteller - Book of fairytales & Highway[Segment Recordings Digital]
Storyteller - Shutdown ( & a track which I still have to make) [Pangea Recordings Digital] |

Perhaps one thing to add is that no matter what happens, make it look as if it had been planned.
