Before my transformation I was a mouse-only tracker... but now, I'm using mainly my Korg EC 350 with Reason, and afterwards I'm adjusting volumes, nothing more. Everything is played by me on the digi-piano.

I use MIDI keyboard and place the notes note-by-note in the good old tracker way. I never record notes live.

I have a big net that I cover in leaves, then I just sit and wait for the music to unsuspectingly walk by.

I generally hear a melody in my head (when I'm in class or at church or doing something equally important at which hearing a melody in your head is as inconvenient as possible) and rapidly scribble it down in the margin of something to be worked on later. Next semester I'm going to paste staff paper to the inside of all my notebooks with a glue stick to be more prepared for these eventualities. ;) Usually I have the central theme(s) of a song (including key) all worked out in my head well before I get to the computer. My MIDI-in still doesn't work, even in windows, so I only use the keyboard(s) for working out chord sequences. There have only been a handful of times when I "discovered" a nice melody while banging on the keyboard.
