Ok, on the ridge to off topic, but concerning why Cubase suck. Ever heard of TABS before Steinberg? No, we have hundreds of separate windows occupying the project. Cubase is like a mix of many small programs. No care has been taken to make a good workflow and integrate the functions. It's all a big mess and messy buttons everywhere.
Do you feel better now, 1up?

I once tried Tracktion 2. It got some damn nice solutions integrated adressing
too many windows and stuff. Too bad the workflow is so much different from Cubase, since I might just end up using it. Try it and see.

I've never seen them in action, but voted for "both suck" anyway .
Piano roll sucks itself, so apps using it must suck too.

Piano rolls are teh rul0r
And all I know is that in Cubase it's definitely recommended to have 2 screens, and I guess it's really powerful if you know your way around. Btw, wherer are all the Cubase users? Virgill, Hybrid Factor etc., defend yourselves!

hehe They are all here for sure. But they know resistence is futile when it comes to Cubase. Yeah two monitors is a way of coping with the many windows, and yes it ís powerful. However it's still mostly a program that fits the needs of the old linear production methods. 'Creativity First' was Steinberg's slogan for SX 2 when it was released. Yeah, I would rather say 'Get Mad First'. I started making music in FT2 which was so smooth and easy. One song could be done in minutes. With Cubase most things become a tedious task. OK, the learning curve is steep but still. Nothing is intuitive. Functions are populary mentioned as 'well hidden' to reflect the fact that they are so hard to get to that many users don't even have found them in the program. lol

ofcourse, that arises a question of what are the exact features an average user would need on a reach of his hand, err... mouse.
Observing on myself, all i really need is a mixer(shortcut F3), where switching from insert FX to send FX to integral EQ is done. Then I need to load VST instruments (F11),
make a midi track(right mouse button) and assign things to it, then write notes.. This is but a 10%(yet the most fundamental that is) of all the softs features... a waste really if you look on it certain way.
Tho I greatly agree two screens, one for midi editing and one for mixer would make things a lot more easier, not that im complaining now
And I already agreed that SX2 is a nice shoot in a foot by Steinberg. Or maybe im just used to SX 1 (still, the blue color of SX2 is ugly imo). Anyway, I most definitely reccommend SX 1 to learn things on rather than SX2/3 , since then the transition is way smoother.

I'm a cubase fan since I was brought up on Logic. Compared to Logic, cubase has a fairly common work-flow and interface concept, whereas Sonar is far too different for my liking.

Both suck
once tried Cubase VST/24, couldn't get non-MIDI samples out of it
