Can someone recommend a DX or VST harmonic exciter plugin? I've tried iZotope Ozone's module, but it doesn't sound transparent enough for my taste as it adds lots of low-level distortion and colouration to the rest of the frequency spectrum too (when attempting to add some excitement to the higher frequency bands). It actually sounds darn right crap, so I'm really looking for something high-end.
Have tried Google too, but all I'm getting is Ozone.
Seems I might have to resort to something hardware-based like a PowerCore or a UAD-1 then...if they even have one?
Any suggestions?

I guess you're looking for exactly the same thing as me. I've been looking for freeware ones, but without any result.
Perhaps this can help?
Fortunately, my music is much more interesting than my posts. |

Lol Thought of asking you that question yesterday, Atlantis!
However I've found a guy suggesting Steinberg ME Spectralizer Not sure if it's any good though.

Do you have a link for that? Or is it only included as part of Wavelab?

Guess it's Wavelab only.

I toyed with the harmonic excited in O-Zone a bit a few weeks ago (Before my computer ceased working ) And if I remember right it was a multiband unit? In the manual I think they said to not apply much to the highs and lows, and not very much in general. It's not like harmonic excitation is supposed to be applied heavily, just a few db... Unoftunately my computer then stopped working like I said so I didn't have much more a chance to work with it
Now that I think about it... Isn't it a little odd to complain about an exciter adding coloration? Since that's what it's supposed to do

Yeah, it's a multiband unit. And I only applied up to a 1 dB or so boost on the highest or two highest bands. I tried the lower bands too, but it just adds too much of the analogue sound I hate so much.
And it is about adding colour, but I want it to add the colour only to the bands I select, and not muddying up the rest of the signal by adding all that low-level distortion too.
I also tried the different modes "tape", "retro" and "tube", the first of which was darn right ugly with all its odd harmonics, the second wasn't actually too bad, but still too harsh and unnatural sounding, while the tube one adds an analogue character, making the mix sound less transparent when I don't want it to.
I'll get around to trying those other ones though.
