I havent read the entire topic, only some parts. Here are my thoughts:

If you make music for the money, as we are all artists here, will not go for anything. You compose cause you have something to express, cause you have something inside. If you can sell it, bravo!

Selling your music is not a big deal. There are plenty of digital shops out there, who sell unsigned artists, with nice commissions. You can even sell your own music with a little bit of organisation and background. The big deal how you promote it. You can setup your own site and sell your tracks, in a site with 20-50 daily visitors. Same for the big sites, where there are visitors, but there is a small chance ppl will buy your track. There come the labels and promo companies, who do their job and promote you. And if you are on that genre, the djs are extremely important.

In overall, if you write quality music (sound quality is very important), you can be sure you sell it on one way or the other.

theres a wicked little club night here in london called CD-R i think - its where you put your tune on CD and if u hand it in before 10pm its played on the night, really good idea i think, as theres loadds of producers and DJs there and also some talent scouts and label reps, plus you get to hear your tune in a full club system which is pretty cool, i'll deffo be bringing some of mine along at some point
Music creates order out of chaos: for rhythm imposes unanimity upon the divergent, melody imposes continuity upon the disjointed, and harmony imposes compatibility upon the incongruous. --Yehudi Menuhin :

So what would one buy with respect but respect?

Hmm... Arrogance, cockiness, a holier than thou attitude? I'm not saying that you or anyone here would... but it's a byproduct of too much respect. There's always a negative byproduct when there too much of something. Maybe that's why all of the ancient philosophies were all about moderation...maybe??? ;)
