heya people, thought I'd start a new game over here (oh yes, ANOTHER game, you can stop reading now )
this time is about fanwanking, which means to come up with a totally logical explanation for any plothole ever seen in a game or a movie, each person gives an answer and asks a question in return.
I'll go first:
How could the engineers of the huge walking tanks in star wars (AT-AT or ST-AT?)
never foresee that people would use wires to trip them into falling?

For the same reason that the oliphaunts in Return of the King worked so well....The tanks(metal or organic) are so huge and intimidating that a few wires really won't stop them for long.
My turn!
In Harry Potter, the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione and Harry go back 13 hours or something like that to save Sirius and Buckbeak....Wouldn't that mean they would have to keep going back in time again and again and again and in some way be stuck in some sort of time loop?
EDIT: Think of the old Star Trek Next Generation episode of Cause & Effect.

Well, they go back 3 hours in time. You first see how they live their time normally, how harry gets a stone on the head, harry sees how the patronus saves him, and so on. Then dumbledore sends them back in time. Then there are two harry and hermione at the same time. But it'll be the older harry and hermione who'll go back in time, because Dumbledore will tell them to do that (again, if you want to see it like that). That's also why Dumbledore said to them, if they're not back by the last chime of the bell, the consequences could be catastrophic.
Now: In Back to the future part I: If Marty really got back to 1955 and saved george from that car accident, so that george never met Lorraine that way, then why do we see an 1985 reality where George is an idiot and Lorraine is a drunk woman, before Marty does the time journey? I mean, 1955 is the past, and marty DID alter the past, so there must have been only one 1985.

ah, but you cannot go back into the same time you leave, that's a consequence of travelling through time, at least if you believe the doc When you alter time, you
actually create another timeline, thus you've never actually been there.
But it's roughly the same question as the one in harry potter, which came first?
the change in time, or time itself?
Alright, next question:
Why does every lady whose ever been scared in a movie, run UPSTAIRS for?
any person with enough smarts instantly realizes that going up limits your ability
to defend yourself against whatever is chasing you.

Well, ladies in the movies are usually pretty. And a lady who's smart and pretty(and can act) is VERY rare in the whole world. In movies its even more rare.
Basically, the girl in the movie is just too stupid to notice.
My turn:
In kill bill 2, uma thurman gets buried alive and breaks her way out of the prison by breaking through the wood with her hand. What about the rest? I mean, if you'd break that wood, and I'm pretty unsure about her doing that, how are you going to get out of the grave? I mean, there is no way that she can lift the lid of the box that's buried in, and there's no way either that she can move through that little hole that she made.
Besides, if she even gets out of the box, HOW ON EARTH is she going to move through all the dirt?
It took a while, but : It's a new release! (3498 hits) |

While I would certainly be worried about a cave in(grave in? LOL) once the lid was destroyed, after that I'd just try and dig bit by bit and put the excess dirt in a corner of the box if it was possible. It's also possible that she wasn't buried very deep but I've never seen the movie so I don't know. I also don't plan on being buried alive to test that theory.
My next plot hole is from Independence Day. Now you know how all sorts of companies have methods for detection viruses and trojans and all that? Heck, most of our computers have all sorts of antivirus software on them. So my question is this? Considering that alien civilization was so advanced and all that? Why did they not have any antivirus software on their ships??? Sure the guy went to MIT and all, but come on, all of a sudden its like "I'll give them a cold" and then 'Goodbye!!" and then all the ships are taken down like nothing. No antivirus software....BAH!!!

Well, it's a fairly easy fanwank this one
simple, the humans hacked into their systems, but of course some eggheads over at the science labs managed to build some kind of system information interpreter which in turn made the alien systems into something which resembled human thought, so with that you've got the connection. BUT: the reason the human computer virus functioned? possibly because of the difference in nature between the alien mindset and the human one, thus the virus worked in a way which the aliens hadn't anticipated , simply because they didn't think in those lines.
Now, with that out of the way, the counter-question becomes:
why didn't the aliens haxor us first ? why just rely on brute force and not cripple our entire nations computers first? an advanced approach tactic would be to cripple everything possible in terms of logistics, military force, and intelligence and then do it simultaneously right? so .. why just rely on those ships?

Simple... Did you see how they look? They are not intellengent enough to hack us. Like humans, you have people that are good in inventing things, and you have people that are good in controlling things. They must've been the controlling people and do not have skilled people on their ship that can coap with our form of technology.
In Face-Off, these people are getting their face exchanged. Why wasn't their fingerprints been checked to see that he was the good guy? And why not his DNA etc.. etc..? Medical science would've clearly made him the good guy, even with his face off...

A very good question. But I don't think there is a logical explanation for this.. besides I don't think I've ever seen the movie..
Ok, I obviously just wrote this to ask my own silly question, so here I go: In the Lord of the Rings books/movies, everytime somebody is stuck on the top of some mountain or in another place without a chance of escaping, there comes that huge bird thing to safe that person.. so why can't they just use the bird to fly straight to the volcano and throw the damn ring into it?? That would take less than a day and the world could be saved before Sauron even suspects anything.

because then there wouldn't even be three books/movies of LOTR. You have to keep some sort of suspense as an author. If the bad guy gets beaten too quickly, the story gets bored.
In all the Star Trek films... why do everyone still walk and run trough the ship, enter damaged corridors and risk their lives on unstable planets? Why don't they just beam around everywhere? Why not beam from the Bridge to Engineering? Why use turbolifts?
We see clearly that you can beam someone from a planet directly to sickbay, but in sickbay there are no transporter pads, neither on the planet.
