Even though their technology is advanced, it still does cost power. They still haven't invented something like: unlimited power. If they would beam around the ship, they would simplry ran out of power in a matter of weeks. Beside, it would be bad for their health...
In the Knight-Rider (yeah sorry i know ) Kitt is a smart car that can do virtual anything. Why does Michael Knight still has to drive him?

1. And yet they have enough energy to waste it on beaming food and drinks from the kitchen into the dining room (if i remember right that is..)
2. Because Michael Knight would look like an idiot just sitting behind the steering wheel and not doing anything, which would result in him not getting laid in every episode

1: Wrong. The "replicator" uses predefined molecule structures to create the food from scratch. It kinda deforms an existing molecule chain...

Sure K.I.T.T. could drive himself but I don't think he's old enough to have a driver's license
I've got one: In Itchy and Scratchy, episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. What's that all about

aha, a classic fanwank theorem! (this is as classic as the old buddhist theorem about the falling tree)
Easy, he strikes the rib at different angles, thus producing another tone, because as we all know bone marrow isn't uniformly solid in the centre of the bone, thus striking the bone at a slightly different angle would possibly produce another tone!
*bows to the audience*
Now, here's another one: in the series angel (which is a spinoff from buffy the vampire slayer) the main character can't experience perfect happiness, because that would make a curse he's under disappear, now if this curse is lifted, he loses his soul and becomes evil, and that's something you'd not want! (since he's a vampire ....)
Now, in the series, he does loose his soul a couple of times for various reasons (err.. yeah.. "various reasons") , and each time his friends re-curse him again, thus restoring his soul to him (and thus making him a good guy again)
now, my question is , why can't they alter the curse so that it becomes permanent?
Re-ensoul him for life so to speak.. or un-life... err. whatever..
And no, the answer "because they need to keep the suspense going" isn't a valid one! that's now a true fanwank!

If they run out of power, then why not "replicate" a battery? why not replicate a power source? They create matter from scratch. Then create your power! Besides... what's the power source of the star ships? They never go back to "charge up".

They infact tried that in one episode.
However, when they tried to create a powersource, the powerdrain was twice of that what it produced...
