Hey fellow CTGers. I wish to purchase some new samples cds and so I am wondering what is the best samples pack you ever found? Was it on a website somewhere and is still available for purchase? Was it free for download or perhaps the best samples you ever heard arrived with your production software?
If it is on a website could you provide a link and maybe a rough idea of what to expect in terms of pricing and production quality? Is the cd full of high quality synths and pads but not so many good basslines and drum loops?
The ideal for me would be a fair share of quality synths and pads, but also a fair share of cinematic sounding one shots that would add a certain amount of spice to any song in which they were used. If you know some stuff that is free to download that would be awesome obviously, but if the cd you have in mind is in the $30 to $50 dollar range that is perfectly fine.
All input appreciated as long as it stays serious. I hate those who waste time going . Be serious dammit!

Unless you're recommending every cd there...maybe I didn't make myself clear. I've read a bunch of the threads you can find by searching for 'Samples' etc and found some free sites like Flash Kit. What I was looking for was others' personal recommendation for a specific cd.
Btw? I download a few of the packages on dorumalia but they come in the form of refills and/or Wav files that all end up in the form of one giant winamp file. Maybe I'm not saving them right or something.

Well, they come in .zip's, and contain .wav's. Seems perfectly normal here. Then if you have the wav's associated with winamp, they of course get the winamp icon.
Perhaps you have .zip's associated by winamp, and at the same time have "hide known file extensions" enabled (a setting in the file explorer). Then all you would see is a winamp icon and and the filename without the last part (after the dot).
After all, there is not such a thing as a "winamp file", there's only file extensions associated with winamp.
Fortunately, my music is much more interesting than my posts. |

no, as far as i can remember they should come down as .rar or .zip files for the .wavs. i didn't post concrete links because i thought all things are pretty good there - sorry for that
as personal favourites in pads and stuff i would say Atmosphere tho it costs more than 30 bucks.

I once downloaded a few drum samplepacks from ModArchive. They are mono, all have DC offset and I have to cut the attacks, because the creator of them didn't do that.
Yet, I think those are the most used drums ever in my songs. They just fit really great. I can't think of any song I've made that wouldn't use them.

30 bucks?? I saw this! "$399 Six CD-ROM set" I browsed around and saw other cd sets for similar prices. Yes I am fast running out of samples...but ouch! That's too much Bob!

Is it not better to use VST instruments when it comes to synthesized sounds? There are a lot of good free VST instruments out there. The Hollow Sun page used to have lots of vintage synth sounds available for free download. Now, they sell some sample CDs and don't have the old stuff available for free anymore. But maybe you should check their page up. Also, www.soundsonline.com has lots of sample CDs in a wide range of prices, from really expensive to reasonably cheap.
From Darkness To Light, my newest track.
