My first thought exactly  But let's wait for some IP checking by the admins coz that track is really well done and it would be a shame if it actually was a case of self-reviewing

The IP Addresses do not match. But it's weird though... the last review was written by a user who registered, reviewed, and never came back. no downloads, no activity, and only a few minutes of total life in CTG. About the other two members, gotta look closer at those accounts.

This has turned into a rather interesting diversion/investigation.
Having checked out this new development myself, the first impression I get is that of the 'dubious' members/reviewers user names.
'cktuba' & 'violinbrat'.....Hmmm...an obvious connection there....
But come on, its not very imaginative, is it? In the words of the late Kenneth Williams (he of the 'Carry On' movies fame)...."Dont make me Laaaaaaarrrrrfff!"
The thing is, the song is pretty good (in a Billy-Ray Cyrus kind of way) and quite endearing, so why bullshit the reviews/charts system anyway? I'm sure this tune would have generated a decent and deserved status off its own back, without the need for skullduggery. And I'm not saying there has been any.
Do I win £5 and a CTG coffee cup? |

What if the song wasn't made by the original artist? ie, it was ripped?
that would most certainly explain the bogus reviewing since most rippers
are insecure, immature bastards who are in dire need of a good
psychiatrist!
is it just me.. .or does CTG need to combat this on a more direct way?

I say it doesn't matter. As far you act like curious kids after mother denied to lurk, these fellas get attention they won't deserve. Truth is there will always be rippers and self-reviewers, that's not an issue, really. Those catched ones will be warned privately, fake reviews will be removed and proven rips will be deleted. That's it. No need to hunt, no public crucify. Dot.

There are several ways to do this.
Some guy tried to spam a few proxy servers on modplug.com I banned 2 guys that were doing this and deleted all but one post. I can PM the link to one of the staff (or give it another way) Checking IP matching to this proxy would explain it also.
But he could also go to a friend, ask him to register, and give a 10. Its like asking a favor, which isn't being executed the right way... which is a penalty in rules aswell...
