Nifflas wrote on 27 Jul. (17:49) :

since the guy uses live 4, I believe he's thinking midi/vst tracks (and I guess most other posters here do too).

when I used my hardware equipment, all my songs used 14-16 midi tracks. That was quite enough for me.

Well in Renoise, thanks to the feature that allows to type up to ten notes in one row per channel, it's pretty much the same as in industry-standard sequencers.

Yeah, of course.

My renoise songs usually requires less tracks than my older hardware stuff. I have no idea why, perhaps my music has become more minimalistic.

I think that Emulator, for example, only have like 6-8 tracks. One of a hundred million streets has... 5? Others has more though.
Fortunately, my music is much more interesting than my posts.

That's right. I assume it was directed towards my direction ;) Anyway - of course a good song isn't about how many tracks it uses. It also depends a lot on the genre and so on. Besides, less is more (sometimes).

I usually use about 12-16, 20 max. There's a saying in Toronto, if you're usiing more then 20 tracks to make music, you're doing something wrong.

150 tracks is the usual for heavily tuned tracks such as "The Method", "Oblivion Project" and "Cybernetic"....but thats only because of cutting of samples, loops and full sequences as well as different processing elements. recent have been 90 or so. I kinda get lost after a while when 30 tracks are found in Cubase, another 20 in FL, another 10 or so in Live and Reason, other 40 in Project, etc, etc.

but thats only because my methods are unnatural.
I live through music...music lives through me...
