I am bringing together a team for A MMORPG. We will need either a single or group of artists to compose music for this. The Alienz Project will be OpenSource, at SF.net, and it will be freeware. We would prefer to have brand-new music. The format should be .XM, .MOD, other tracker formats. Samples shoyld follow the traditions of game music. Post responses, and I will be checking back regularily.
Andreas told me to go here looking for artists. Andreas was a "big name in the modscene" about 3 years ago.
-Always looking for something. Right now, Something=Musicians/Artists/Producers. |

Yeah!! New member on board! I would love to make music for you, but mine still suck badly! Is it needed to be good? Can I say please?
And so I must ask.... are you talking about Andreas Viklund?! THE Andreas? Or is it someother one I dont know? Or maybe Anders Akerheden? It would be so cool if it would be Viklund, still my idol forevah! But just calling him "big name in the modscen 3 years ago" is so wrong... He has stopped making mods at that time. Say "a legend since 1997!" becuse that is what he is....
Have yougot any examples of artists who has given you music? Why do you want XM and MOD song? MP3 and OGG allow you to have pro studio quality music at only a few megabyte!! What kind of style will the game be?

Hey man! I suggest you postpone your music searching for a much later stage in your development.
First of all, the truth is that most game projects get sacked at an early stage due to a bad concept, group dynamics or thinking too big. So getting an artist and wasting his time early on with no good reason isn't so pleasent.
Second, once you have a good collection of art sketches, a prototype or even a working demo, the artiist can get inspired by them and write more fitting music!
Third, if your project is good and it shows, you'll get more people competing to write music for you..
Just my random thoughts on the subject. Good luck!

^ this is a very sensible post
I was to write music to a game which also was to be a mmorpg, however,
i never got any prototypes nor any workable demos so I couldn't do squat
about it, and so .. the project died... luckily for me, i hadn't made any music
so i didn't loose anything, but if I had made any music, I would have been
furious... so make sure you've at least got a workable demo which runs on
everyone's computer before you contract any musicians, since after all if we
don't have an idea about what the game is to be about, we can't make music
which fits with it.

Why? Don't we all make music just for the sake of making music? |

| Tho it would be very cool to start with a soundtrack and make a game to suit it. |

whaha, quite right, quite right! however, it really gets you down when you've
taken the time to actually go through with making +20 songs for a project and
the whole thing goes belly up.. all you can do is release them as "songs I made for this game which never went anywhere"

Thanks for the tips. I will return after prodding my programmer into action. And that concept of making a game to fit music is a good idea, but designing a game is hard enough as it is, without throwing wrenches into my creative process And yes, it is "the Andreas" . I understand that no artist wants to making music just to have the project roll over and die. The Alienz Project will not roll over and die, I assure you, but your suspicion is understandable. As i said, "I WILL BE BACK" (thick austrian accent)
BTW: we want .xm, .mod, and other old formats because they let us have krazy long tracks which are compact (EX: musicpack.zip 8:45, 27.5 MB)
-Always looking for something. Right now, Something=A Sharp and Pointy Stick, or a Rusty Wooden Spoon. |

Hehe Yes.
Then again, you should be grateful for the motivation, because having made 20+ songs is quite a satisfaction.
And you can release them as an "album" or something.
Some disappointment is there, I know. But - the music is not getting worse because of that. |
