Once again the problem of non reviewed songs...

Well, I've been checking those reviews which hasn'n got a single review and I've noticed they can be categorized. I mean, there are 4 main groups of songs which are destined not to be reviewed.

1. Tracker formats (IT, MOD, S3M, XM...) They are not unpopular, but not everybody has the software or plug-in needed to listen to those tracks.

2. Other file formats: I've also noticed OGG, for example, is not as popular as mp3 and it's usually an obstacle for a reviewer who doesn't have the necessary software/plugin to play the song.

3. Unpopular Genres: There are genres like Death Metal, Other, etc which frightens the listener not giving the song at least a single chance.

4. Bad songs: I've even experienced myself when I listen to a bad song and don't want to hurt author's feelings. The solution is easy, I simply don't review it. I think this is a mistake, but it happens.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:

For 1 and 2 one solution would be to place a link close to the file extension on song info where you can download what you need to play it.

For 3 I think there's no solution. People love trance and that's a fact, but it would be a nice idea to make "groups" of reviewers of each genre. For example, My music is metal and classical. I can make better reviews for metal and classical songs, so I would join a "group of metal (or classical) reviewers" to review every single song of each genre. It would be nice to have a top reviewers group on charts, to award the most active group of reviewers, etc.

For 4 maybe the only solution is to perform a "prune" system where you can make a click on a button and say the admins that the song is not good enough for CTG with no need of making a review. Then admins could delete it if they consider it necessary. This is a bit radical, but it would rise quality of songs in CTG and would reduce the number of non reviewed songs.

Brilliant! :) When an ogg file is found, a link could be automatically generated to the oggvorbis website? An a link to XMPlayer automaically generated for mod formats.

Maybe for other things like plugins, it would cool to have checkboxes that the author could check for particular plugins, and links could be displayed accordingly.

Another good idea. Kind of like gaming clans! :P May be a fun feature to add.

Radical indeed. I don't think it would be a good idea to remove songs simply becasue they are deemed as bad quality. Remember, taste is partial to the listerner... and its everybody's right to share, be heard and learn.

Also, lots of unreviewed tracks use streams or other bad hosts (with registering etc.) which keeps people from even listening  And don't forget preview clips coz people rather wait for finished songs to review. Many song are unreviewed for a reason, there's surely a valid point PLUKS  I'm not sure if we can do anything about that though... There are lots of people who don't like songs in tracker formats (1. b/c of the format and 2. b/c of the sound), lots of people don't like unpopular genres (that's why the word unpopular, duh!), lots of people don't like bad songs (no need to explain this). It's just hard to review something constructively that people just don't dig as much... :col:

That would prolly take some work, but the idea itself is brilliant
"The 'soul' of the machines has always been a part of our music. Trance always belongs to repetition, and everybody is looking for trance in life... in sex, in the emotional, in pleasure, in anything... so, the machines produce an absolutely perfect trance."

That would take the least amount of work, I think it's a really good suggestion  Users won't have to do anything, it'll be a solemn CTG feature.
