Well, this aint new, now is it?

I mean, we all know commercial music goes in circles consuming everything on its path. R&B and Hip-Hop abusing music from the 60's 70's and 80's, popmusic having no other aim than money which results in the same and the same and the same, the music industry being on a hunt for other genres to screw over (nu-metal, gothic metal, big beat, etc)..

I mean, it's only natural that less cd's are being sold.
The biggest public right now are people around the age of 9 to 14 who still buy the chartfukkers for the simple reason that they get mindflooded with it (Idols be a nice example).

Well, it leaves more space for people like us who don't get influenced that much by big numbers, big people and big audiences who demand a certain output from us.
The progression died. Long ago. Though I fear it won't take long before something simular will happen with the scene as well...

Yeah Whirloop: we are running the second round of reality shows in Hungary, and we have 4 new "music stars" coming out from this... no comment...

Good quality music are less advertised, maybe artists do not need it (have you ever thought that the best sellers are not Madonna, etc, but eg Bach, Vivaldi?)

Randor: gold-eared producers = good selling producers. Not necessarily, but if you change the direction of this equalization, hm, not true.

Boomerand: What do you mean by that: "Though I fear it won't take long before something similar will happen with the scene as well..."

As I read your comments, it seems to me that you feel that the future of the industry is the web. Structured scene and pro music pages (like CTG or mp3.com), where you can dl whatever you want, usually for less than you'd pay for a CD.

Is there any record company you know, who tried to do stg similar? I know some service companies, who do. Also, any famous artist, who is only advertise himself on the web?

Yeah, the problem with the web is that even my 11 months old child could upload tons of his own composition: frustration of having to much... and, if you are focused, you can easily eat commercial shit.

:coffee:

What I mean is that the scene is also moving towards a certain "mainstream" sound.. With better software, cheaper hardware and better artists who can produce professional soundqualities using a home computer.. And a big "competition" among sceners (not talking about compos but about ratings, charts, etc) not to mention the influence from commercialism itself.

Ofcourse it's still free, it's still progressing but there is too much music that feels copied, feels as if it comes straight off Tracne Collection nr 5, Best Cheap Dance Compilation 12, Popwhores United..

There are awesome artists around here doing original and GOOD music which keeps progressing but there's a big majority of mainly 4/4-aimed musicians with good software and a hunger for attention..
But, I admit that my sentence WAS overdone :)

The main problem with the music industry is that it kills music's progression and that it will eventually implode.. (y'know, people get sick of it after awhile, commercial music can easily be downloaded through peer 2 peer, copied cd's, etc etc)..
Though it will be a great time for new stuff once it DOES implode. Then maybe some people will stand up who don't need millions for their music and don't need pretty faces to be popular. So, then.. we'd be talking about MUSIC again, something I can't say about the current state of commercial music now.. It's too much aimed at profit and masses.

"have you ever thought that the best sellers are not Madonna, etc, but eg Bach, Vivaldi?"

Conclusion: As with all artforms you have to be dead to make big money...
"Only the dead survives" LOL
