I use Logic 7 Pro along with Reason 3 in the studio. Logic Pro is by far the best program out there for electronic musicians. It spanks Cubase and FL.

Logic 5.1.3 was the last version made for PC back when Emagic owned it. Now Apple bought them out and all versions are MAC only. If you can afford a MAC, get it.

Can I just say a big well done to everyone here for maintaining such broad and diplomatic responses without going down the "A is better than B" road...
Some very useful replies which im sure have helped... I use FL Studio 5 and in my opinion its FAR better than Reason, Renoise, Ableton Live, Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools, the lot put together... So there.
Only joking. |

I don't think anyone mentioned Tracktion. They say it's an easy, high quality software.
I've tried tracktion 1 and found it a little too cheesy, but it was only a few hours of experimentation. It got great reviews on Future Music.

Well, I'm a big fan of ableton live. Although it's not perfect (but what is), it fits my needs (I also want to perform live).
In the past I used :
- A primitive sequencer on the commodore 64 (which I programmed myself:-)
- Kcs 3.5 on the amiga together with some nice hardware.
- Cakewalk , cubase and Logic on pc.
- MPC2000XL hardware sequencer.
And I have tried out lots of other sequencing software and hardware.
I find it important that I can perform live with my sequencer (although I'm not doing it at the moment, I've done so in the past and will do it in the future I hope). That's one of the reasons that I choose Live.
My advice to you : Try out some of the software which is mentioned in this thread or you read about in magazines or somewhere else on the internet and use the one you feel fastest most happy/free/creative with. Later on when you get more experience you will probably go and use other software too.
Anyway : Happy sequencing
Greetings, Audax
