obviously, every now and then someone will make a good point which you should consider. but all in all, everything comes down to personal taste and estetics. do YOU like your sound? do you like your lead?.... if you answer a BIG fat NO to these questions, i doubt someone else will teach you how to change this in a review.

Well, i agree on this point. But you honestly need some directions in the first place when you just start out. I mean, how do you master? how do you mix? In trance these answers can be pointed out in reviews, since basic EQ-ing is the same in all tracks. I'd very much prefer if we keep that in the reviews, and that is what I have against raza's opinion.
Its the same with beats for instance, the basics of making beats can be tought, the 'thing' that makes it good, and that makes it 'yours', can't be tought, I agree, but the basics should be written in a review.

yes definitly you are right about this.

but.. for someone just starting out, i would strongly discourage posting new music here. CTG is not purely about reviewing, but also about finding good music. if we blend in a lot of "this is my first tune" crap, the site will deter drastiaclly in musical quality.

if you are brand new to the world of producing music, i think perhaps irc/msn etc are better mediums for getting feedback on your stuff.

Interesting point. I agree that non-listeners give out great idea's to you, and their points are valid. But I know that I've improved my own music by putting into practice what ppl tought me here in reviews. Making music is hard work, and the reviews that were long and technical, like some sort of in-depth analysis of a song, really helped me improving.
I rather have one huge, long and technical review then 400 reviews that just say: 'hey I like your song' or 'hey, I dont like it'.

its always interesting to know what other people think of your music, your sound, your technique etc. but thats just about it too. its interesting. i think if you listen to all things said in reviews, you will NOT improve, you will actually sway away from some of the aspects that is fundamental in all art: PERSONALITY, UNIQUENESS and SOUL.

obviously, every now and then someone will make a good point which you should consider. but all in all, everything comes down to personal taste and estetics. do YOU like your sound? do you like your lead?.... if you answer a BIG fat NO to these questions, i doubt someone else will teach you how to change this in a review.

what you have to do is listen to music you enjoy. let yourself be inspired and do not be afraid to copycat these artists a little in order to improve your own technique.

once again, conclusion: reviews are healthy, but lets not get all excited about what they say.. its just an opinion. it cant really be a bad one, can it? unless, ofcourse, you pay way too much attention to it.. which is the opposite of what i am trying to say in this post :)

Well, I couldn't say it better myself :)

Yet nobody has suggested her/his Dream CTG, should we consider charts important when it comes to newcomers and their attempts to find good music?? Could we adjust them to show more less popular genres for the sake of equivalence? There would be good changes to do it......

Or should we skip them and let it be as a meter of popularity? Therefore it's precision would be questionable since reviews and downloads affect strongly. Comment this, in my opinion reviewing is pretty much discussed issue. There will be always people who take single review too seriously and are after 100% quality wich we can't fill. :)

on a more serious note.. as i suggested earlier. works in progress, musicians just starting out etc.. can we maybe setup a special forum thread for them to post their tunes and get constructive feedback and pointers here..

this would give newcomers a chance to get feedback, and at the same time, it will allow more "quality" music to be part of the review/download portion of the site.

yes? no?

no. if I were a newbie, I wouldn't want a label 'newbie' upon me. I'd rather get bad ratings.

a _fully_ functional public review system is in my opinion IMPOSSIBLE.
its like discussing how to achieve peace on earth when you have people like george bush and saddam hussein running around.

Hehe.
You know I didn't mean "ideal" system, or a utopia if you will. :)
My point of view is simple: system is good, but there are little issues you don't see if you aren't involved in those report thingies, one or other side. I know nothing in reality can run ideally, but I can see it is not yet _optimal_ at the moment. That's why my previous post, and the preceding ones.

I don't get it. Can anyone tell me what are we debating about? What are the complaints exactly? What do ppl don't like in the review system? Post it loud and clear, please.

what's wrong with being a newbie if in fact are a newbie? really..

secondly, i think if you post in a "feedback" forum, you would actually get more constructive help, since the section is there to give HELPand constructive feedback, and not review the tune as a whole and thereafter slam the rating on top.

hehe :)

nothing wrong.. we actually share the same point of view. i am HAPPY with the way things are now.. and as cooth has said earlier "minor adjustments can be done"..

what those are to be is up to the admins, they actually see a lot more of what is going on than us mortals.
