I agree. I was being mean. But I realllllyyy realllyyy rrrrreeeeaaaaallllllyyyyy hate hip-hop, and it takes everything I have in me to stop myself from screaming it out loud!!!! I HATE IT!!! 
I there is more to hip-hop than what I see on MTV and hear at the mall, I hope the rest of the world enjoys and it loves it, but I will never know, because as soon as I hear anyting that even sounds like hip-hop I automatically want to bust a cap in it. |

Life is really strange...
Four days ago, after lil time this thread was created, a friend of mine told me a young rapper near my city needed some hip hop grooves to create a demo...
Thanks to ths topic and his samplepack I could realize something quite good...quite good since this rapper liked it a lot and will start soon with lyrics.

Well, its not that easy. I mean, there is some awesome hiphop at http://www.tokyodawnrecords.org, although I completely agree with you that the hiphop on television nowadays is completely crap. I mean, if I get shot 9 times, I'll be miljionair too?

You should check out guys like Atmosphere, Mr. Lif, and Hierglyphics. I believe that their music more accurately represents hiphop than most of the crap you see on MTV. |

Sorry to make this old subject float about again...
but..
im writing a hip-hop track... (i define hip hop as bassy, and at a tempo of between 75-90 bpm with a solid drum groove...).. but I really like this track, and i normally hate hiphop so..
anyway!!
been trying to make a "phat" kik sound (see what I did there)..
aaand its not sounding so in-yer-face as I would like it.. its more like a bassy kik rather than a phat kik..
anyone have any nice kik samples that are very punchy?

compress:
Ratio settings 4:1 to 7:1 then set the attack to the slowest setting then increase the time of the attack, turn down the volume on the sample and increase the attack. I usually get a little more punchy drum by doing this
