Hi all.
I believe that this is my first ever post on the CTG forums. I'm glad to be here )
Anyway, I've been checking out the Reviewer of the Week news for a couple of weeks and I've noticed that the number of unreviewed songs is constantly increasing. For example, last week there were 691 unrewviewed songs and now there are 714. My guess is that the rate of songs that are being submitted to CTG is greater than the rate of songs that are being reviewed. I presume that it had not been so before, but it is so now.
Therefore, I suggest that the limit of waiting for 5 days before being able to upload another song be somehow altered. I think that it is not the 5 reviews that are too little, I think it is the 5 days that are too short a time for waiting. It could be done, for example, that from the number of unreviewed songs for last week (714), the number of unreviewed songs for the week before that (691) be subtracted (714-691 = 17), to yield the new number of days for waiting. So, the person that does not review songs, would have to wait 17 days before being able to submit his/her new song. This would practically mean that almost no songs would be added on CTG for that week, giving the reviewers enough room to decrease the number of unreviewed songs. The number of reviews posted could remain the same, i.e. 5 reviews; the idea is to somehow motivate people to review more, instead of to wait a relatively short time (5 days).
Of course, this is just a suggestion on how to allow more artists to receive reviews. The idea of CTG may be to promote artists better and not to focus on the reviews themselves, but I do believe that an increasing number of unreviewed songs is not something that the artists want. This idea is also not final, but it can be built upon, if you have your own suggestions.

Hiya Kruser, nice to see you around here
Anyways, we've had similar discussions regarding the review system in the past.
What I believe also is that this whole system is flawed, I've noticed recently a
massive surge of bullshit reviews, no doubt spawned by people who'd rather
not review songs, but to just release their stuff and be done with it.
But, everyone wants feedback on their stuff, that's why there's a community
in the first place! But, what these people are doing, is actually leeching off the
rest of us who DO write reviews, which also pisses me off alot.
So, my proposition is to enforce stricter rules. When you arrive at CTG, the first
thing you have to do in order to even get a PROFILE, is to write five reviews.
Then each week you're expected to write at least five VALID reviews, in other terms,
if your review is removed (in case you write BS reviews) , your count for that week decreases. And if your count goes under a monthly limit, your account is automatically
disabled and your songs hidden, until you review enough songs to get it active again.
I don't know about you people, but I'm dead tired of giving feedback and getting
little in return.
Also, props for starting this topic Kruser!

The moment you start forcing people to write reviews, they'll leave. Reviews have always been optional. Me myself I am not a constant reviewer... I'm not also a constant listener. Should my account be closed for that?
If you increase the amount of reviews you have to write or days you have to wait, people will just get pissed and the review quality will sink.
I say it once more, we lay focus on review quality and not quantity. If there are little reviews, then bummer. But at least, the ones that are there are constructive and helpful.

I'm with xTr1m here. The limit as it's now already makes people often write crappy reviews just to be able to add a song.
The fact is that the real problem here is that people got lazy. Old members, including me write reviews quite rarely these days, comparing to the old days.
I was once able to force myself to write 3 reviews a day, now I can't. When I joined this site there were 0 unreviewed songs. I got 3 reviews ont he first day of hosting my first song here if I remember right. But the comunity grew, the old members got tired and bored, new members are often inactive and don't review at all, while everyone add songs.
That's just the way it is.
The fact is also, that CTG has over 5000 members now. It means that if only 1/8 of them wrote one review, there would be 0 unreviewed songs again. But that won't happen.

In fact, as we have more or less 20 onliners at the same time... if every active visitor to CTG would write 17 reviews in an interval of half an hour per review, the amount of unreviewed songs would sink to 0 in less than a day. Make 8 reviews daily and you'll have that score in two days.
But statistics wont help here. You should not force people to make reviews. They should be from good will and voluntarily. It's the reviewer who decides to help an artist, not the artist demanding a service from a visitor.

You guys think too highly of people...
I guess it'll pop back into the same system that governed the TiS
site "you write me a review, and I'll return it"
Let the desintegration begin.

It's not that simple though. To write a (decent) review, you need to download a song, listen to it several times, spend some time writing, reading what's been written and editing if necessary. At least that's my procedure.
There's a big difference between visiting CTG for a moment, to check the forums and write a silly post and submitting a review. The first one doesn't require any effort or much time. AND it doesn't require possessing any speakers. |

Im tired of writing reviews and thats one reason why i dont have the inspiration to write a top notch review!!!
And i agree that songs could be added once a week! or 2 songs in one month...so everyone has time to download each song! and the artist could get more attention!
So is CTG going to be quantity instead of Quality??? and unreviewed songs are growing faster than we can imagine! so if we let the unreviewd songs grow...soon we will be drowned! and maybe never gonna get the unreviewed songs to drop down!
