I recall ctgmusic had a website, where you could name an artist and few lines of comments why he/she should be aotm. personally I'd prefer that option better than a list of, lessay, 5 names. 'cos in this case the staff would still have the final word and we, members and artists, could only name the artist we think earn the title. and everyone could name his/her pick for aotm once every week/month so that there would be no system abusing.
on the other hand, I don't see anything wrong with the system already suggested, but I'd see the old (honestly, was there such a thing in the past? I can't remember) system function better.
on the funky hand, I trust the staff with their picks. so far so good is all I can say.
:NEW SONG: just check it. |

Only glitch in the system. What If person X is nominated for AOTM? That person X could go to 30 different PCs and vote for himself in the poll, and BOOM, he's popular (in the poll graph).
What if staff chooses another person and not person X because of this suspicion? Then the poll would become completely worthless since staff would anyway make their own choice.
So, there is a glitch in that suggestion.

This poll would not be public and the results would be only for the staff. That means, it would require the people to trust the staff well enough. But it would be nothing new, since the choices for AOTMs are done by the staff anyway and is arbitrary.
The only novelty would be like: OK, we have 3 candidates for the next AOTM, write to us who should get the award and then we will decide basing on the opinions. |

This glitch already exists in user reviews. I suppose you have to trust the high moral fibre prevailent in modern society. Or is that being too cynical?

Well, if only members can vote and the staff can see the names of the voters I don't think there's much of a problem. In case a new poll starts and 30 new members suddenly sign up and pick person X you know what's going on

we could make this a vote and consider the one most most voted for AOTM, nothing more. We'd like to keep a high standard

make it very clear that they have to listen to all the artists before voting, so they just don't vote for one artist they love without checking the others out.

I wouldn't require that, because it's impossible people would take the time and effort to listen to several works from each candidate.
Instead, maybe voters should be required to write a brief justification of their choice, thus giving the AOTM choosers a good idea how well the vote is grounded. |

perhaps not several works from others, but at least something from each artist. Otherway I think the result would be unfair.

A normal poll at ctg, the same user can vote multiple times in (I think that it's stored in a cookie on your own PC if you have voted in the poll or not). These polls would have to be a lil bit different - each member shouldn't be able to vote more than once (so if you have voted can't be stored in a cookie). Of course someone can register with multiple names and vote, but that's the kind of guys who write themselves reviews as well - they don't get away with it.
