I belive something must be done, when I looked the other day in the new music section and noticed every song had such a high rating I decided to not download anything since I didn't feel I could trust all of the reviews. "I wrote about this it in th express window" Maybe a solution would be to skip it numbers? I generally liked that idea (someone wrote about it some time ago in this forum) Maybe there could be a new poll about this.

Interesting comment Meltic StOrm. I usually do not download a song, if it already has low rating. Following this logic, it is very sensitive, what is the first rating of the song, it seems. If it is too low, might very few people listen to it (and just think about a new member, without too much spamming, no history: would you dl a song with rating 5?) On the other hand, it seems that the 9 rating is also not pleasent.

Again, rating should not be an issue, imo. Some ppl like it, some not, some ppl feel easier to rate than write comments, and like Homesick Allien pointed out in a previous topic, we do not have to rate songs, just put some comments, if you like.

Okay, I respect any idea. But then how would you decide which songs you gonna dl? In this system at least there is some kinda ranking (good or bad, it is a different question) that you can pick up the stuff you kinda want.

If it does not exist, there are no charts like we have today, I guess only the total dl would count, which can have a very bad result: only the most downloaded songs would be downloaded again.

O/T: Well, I would stick to the rating and improve it. Well, I think the rating has two elements (1) you like the song or not - it is personal taste (2) the quality of production - still have subjective elements, but not that much. And the rate should be a weighted average of that two components. Plus the review. How about that?

Rates are nice , but as long as no people can handle it , it gets a mess like now .

I guess it is nice to do this : (with keeping the ratings).

Every member is free to review tracks , the reviews will be monitored by 1 or 2 persons (problably ace and me), when a review is really bad , or is over or underrated , we give a "penalty" , each member can recieve 5 of that penalties , when they received 5 penalties it is very simple to say that the artist doesn't do anything to do serious reviews or trying to improve him or herself , so they get banned for doing reviews.

With no doubt I just wanna keep the reviews with ratings , just because it is nice , with this system I explained we can get rid of the bad reviewers , and besides that they get 5 penalties , and that is more then enough to learn or improve .

What do u guys think ?

Well, at first sight I think it is a good idea, with the following suggestions:
- it is nice to review the reviews, but I guess it should not be a task of one or two person, if you see what I mean. Because it is kinda close to centralised review with the exception of comments. I agree that webmasters or any volunteer should read all the reviews and check them, but then I suggest to post any questionable review to a forum to let ppl decide. If it is too low or too high, then the review should be removed to the comments list (if not totally).
- I'd like less the idea of penalties, cause ppl might be afraid reviewing, which is one of the best thing here.

And, I still say, that some kinda instructions / guidance would be nice for ratings and reviews.

Or is that just me?

Okay, but isn't this a step away from your ideals?

As long as the site is fairly little and most members know each other more or less from the forum, it's possible to keep an eye on the reviewing quality, then I believe will be two ways: get stricter to maintain control (as on HM) or let it live its own life. I know you want the other so maybe just leave it, possibly adding some basic instructions regarding rating beside the review form. Well, of course we could also think the site is not gonna develop so quickly and maybe there is no need to worry in advance... :)

What I would also dare to suggest is an easy to use review complaint form instead of constant monitoring. You or Ace would just get a special message, you'd only have to go and see the reviews in question. When there is no complaint from either the author or the listeners - a review is okay...

Yeah, these are my thoughts. Don't treat them as solutions I want to persuade you to. Treat it as a kinda brainstorm. ;)

Since review are and always will be personal opinions, I think reviewing reviews will be very wrong. I've given a track a 10, and I still think it's a 10. And if I think a song is worth 10, then I don't want any "police" saying my personal taste in music is wrong. :upset: But I do see the problem! And i have an idea!

Since people stopped trusting the numbers, just ditch them. If people like giving a numerical grade, or if they like receiving a numerical grade, theb make it private. If you need a public score, make a really advanced system that calculates each reviewers average score and translate it to a percentage: i.e. if I reviewed three songs and gave them the grades 6,7,8 this translates to 0,50 and 100%. Now the score is relative not to taste but to other songs on ctg. To make it more fair maybe only reviews from reviewers with at least 5 (or 10) reviews count in the public percentage. Of course this is most likely a bad idea and overly complicated, but I had nothing better to write.

and that's the truth!

i think the combination beetwen cooth and szartds idea would work best.
Like there would be a button beside each review called like "report bad review" and then person in charge for monitoring would get message about it and he/she would give a "penalty" to user who wrote the review and the review should be edited or in worst case removed.

Why not give a rating to review? Thumbs up or down and average of votes shows how reliable it's from other sight.....That way everybody can monitor :D Naah, it would be too heavy to code and makes system messy ;)

It's pretty good you guys think to do something about it, frustrates me when I dld 8mb song with 9 and found it average ;) Gonna drop a review then, surely.
