Thanks

The minimum requirements are the will, patience and creativity.
What might help, is software like Renoise or Sk@le (it's free) if you are interested in tracking, maybe Cakewalk, Massiva if you have audio recording and MIDI in mind. For multitrack audio recording also CoolEdit is good, but some of these things (Cakewalk, CE) are damn expensive.
Many people like Reason too, I guess they shall speak very soon here.
I also think that what you need most depends on what styles of music you want to create, what your goals are.
Only stupid believe they are stupid while they aren't. |

I don't know your background, I tell you how I dig myslef into electronic music. You might want to skip one or two steps.
- easy mixer software with tones of pre-written samples, like eJay Ibiza (www.ejay.com). You can easily compose songs, learn the basics from the pre-written samples, it sounds okay, not really expensive (though your songs are not really original)
- you can upgrade it eg to eJay Music Director Pro, which is a nice studio mixer with basic possibilities and affordable price. You can upgrade it with tones of sample CDs
- Cubase SX is a big step to the studio software, expensive, but top quality, basically know everything what you need. Absolute must for live music production (among other similar, like ProTools, etc).
- Reason (Hi Cooth ) or any tracker is an absolute must for sequencing or tracking, so basically for electronic music. Reason you can check at www.propellerheads.se, you can download free demos, and I think Cooth can tell ya more about tracking programs.
- obviously you need to have a nice PC, an average sound card, and I suggest a small midi keyboard.
Let me know, if you need some more specs.

When yer STARTING with music, it is NOT smart to get involved in high learning curve software right away..
I'd say get either ModPlug Tracker or Skale to get used to using samples, how to edit them, how to create melodies, basslines, drums, etc..
Then, the rest'll come naturally.. |

Maybe I was not clear enough. Reason is surely not a tracker.

I thin ejay or similar software can be a good start for beginers since they will find it cool to make a song on such easy way but soon they will start to feel like they want more, their own stuff and then they can go into real buisseness it is better this way then starting with some huge tool with no music knowledge, it will just took you years to learn it so it is better to do it step by step. |
