The voting deadline has been reached, and now it's time for the final phase of the compo; The Results! The 10 contributors + 14 other CTG members (totally 24 people) took their time to vote their opinion of their favourite entries! This years winner won in the CTG Christmas Compo 2003, and I believe if it weren't for the fact that the deadline was extended last year he would've made it back then as well - but now for real the 2nd time!

- The lower number, the more points. 1st place = 10 points, and 10th place = 1 point. I thought it would be a good idea for a couple of other people to double check the results even though I checked it a few times myself - but instead it's even better if each voter just check their own voting. Any mistakes/errors should be notified ASAP.

VOTERS COMMENTS

Voter #01 / 24 - Kricke

So, why not explain myself (why I voted like I did), so here they are; all the songs with comments in the order I've voted.

1 (2). Kricke - Christmas in the Alleys of the MilkyWay
So I voted my own song first and I feel a bit :ups: to be just one of three contributors in the compo to do so. Not ethical right. :wall: I could've change this later after I saw what the other guys voted though, but that wouldn't be ethical right iether... ... so I kept it like this. I can't comment this song in the same way as I've did with the other songs. But what I can do, is to say that it's imo maybe the best song I've ever made, and that despite I just spent a few days with it (didn't thought I would get the time to do a tune for the compo at first actually.)

2 (1). xerxes - christmas layers
This is not just a great chill-out song, it also contains a fat "christmas-arrangement"; with a piano, church bells and choirs for instance. Good melody! If I had to criticize something it would maybe be the distinct high freqs (minor flaw) which are hearable here and there. Well worthy winner, Congratulations! :martini:

3 (7). Fragger - A Bright Christmas
Chip-sounding christmas-tune! Indeed a bright Christmas. Christmas is actually about to give hope in a dark time, so this tune did indeed lighten things up for me. Melodically, really nice, just too bad it didn't got any longer. Looking at the results today, I have to say it's - imo - the most underrated entry in the compo.

4 (4). LiquidRadiation - A Chipmunks Christmas
Hehe, we could consider this entry as our "Christmas-'Call On Me'-kind of entry", or something like that :) With other words, very nice atmosphere but unfortunately the chords grow old too fast (even though I completely understand that people didn't spend night and day with these tunes - the only major flaw here however.) Love the kick, and it's also more friendly to the theme in this compo - than a techno kick, which I was expecting in this case. The calm atmosphere 02:15 (which btw imo is one of the greatest highlights in the compo, that santa voice with robotic effect was a great creative touch) helps however the tune out a bit on the troubled structure-area.

5 (3). oldbrian - Rusty Snowflakes
It would be interesting to see this one evolve into something more, right now it has a very nice soundscape. However melodically it didn't really got the time to convince me more than A Bright Christmas did for instance. But most people seemed to think differently about this obviously. Even though both songs maybe didn't contain a typical christmas spirit, I have to say that this one sounded less christmas-alike.

6 (5). PartySan - Christmas Night
Nice "christmas atmosphere" here, IMO maybe the entry with most of the "classic christmas feeling". No sleigh bell, though? ;) Well, nothing to criticize; great produced and great feeling. If I had to point something out, it could be that the melody doesn't "come out" enough to convince me - too discrete. But then again, probably professionaly done on purpose. Intersting detail: Twin-intro with The Dream of a Fair Christmas! That kind of intro is also in my previous year-entry.

7 (9). Provos - Gentle Dreams
Very nice! I know you forgot about the compo, and too bad you didn't get more time to work on this. So, a nice theme represented but too short (shortest entry in the contest) too impress more than the other short entries (which all made it over 2 minutes in duration and feels more worked through.)

8 (6). Pluks - The Dream of a Fair Christmas
Sweet title, original melody, christmas-sounds and a "christmas-intro" - what could possibly go wrong in a compo like this? Well, the church bell which first shows up at 01:16 and one of the melodies that plays the chorus are unfortunately out of tune which ruins the chorus for me. Most of the mix could take some advantage of some reverb. Love the violin part with that arrangement (01:48 - 02:03.) Good structure. Talent? Yes, but look into the production details next time.

9 (10). Wolf - Merry (Thanks For Nothing) Christmas
Interesting title. Seems to deliver a message, which I'm unfortunately not able to catch - probably my fault. Musically not bad at all, but the production is IMO not convincing; an unfitting techno kick (which is not hearable - same with snare and other drums), the vocals are very backfront and the overall volume balances needs a lot of correction. Stereo guitars are good though. At times everything's mono, and everything blends into each other in clumsy kind of way imo.

10 (8). XnmE - Xmas 2012 (The Punishment in 200 BPM)
Well, I had to vote someone of them last but no offence at all; it's not bad. Even though I personally strongly dislike the whole genre treating "exaggerated" metal stuff, I have to say this is still the best song I've heard with these influences - probably because I had a chance to read the lyrics which IMO seemed to have a message, and it's nicely produced. Great humoristic intro, which leads directly into the song. The outro makes this complete.

ALL OTHER 23 VOTERS, IF YOU WANT, YOU CAN POST YOUR COMMENTS - AND I'LL ADD THEM TO THIS POST.

THANKS

Well, 5th place isn't exactly the best I scored in a compo (I got 3rd in a OHC) but it's good start! I'll try to take part in more compos! :D

can I use the ftp to upload my song to CTG?

Everyone that got a tune submitted for this compo should be proud, no matter what place it got in the end. Don't forget that the Christmas Compo is a compo with high quality every year, and very hard compo to win :D

As for your question; I think you have to ask obScene. But I don't think obScene has anything against to host the entries for a while... So go for it, and kill me if he gets angry! :)

Congratz to everybody and specially to xerxes! I knew he would win. :excited: Anyway, next time I'll be a harder competitor, 'cause I didn't get the idea of the compo and tried to make a traditional Christmas song. Obviously it can do nothing against chillout or ambient.

Edit: Oh! I forgot! I voted my song 1st being not too much ethic, but my real top 5 were:

1 Xmas 2012
2 Christmas layers
3 Christmas in the Alleys
4 Gentle Dreams
5 Rusty snowflakes

But they all were wonderful masterpieces!
