Intel is not the only choice, not since 2001 anyway, Amd kicks Intel's ass in everyway these days.
Waitin for september, Intel planning on striking back, but I doubt they will.

Ofcourse you need something to hear your music with. Good headphones or a good stereo are a neccesity, and if u have the cash, monitor amps.
|
What the hell is a monitor amp?
|
I bet there are a more than a few people here who can give you a much more technical definition, but "monitors" often describe speakers that don't modify or beautify the sound they deliver, so the musician will know how the mix sounds without passing through sound modifications he has no control of. for example, these are the monitors i have: http://www.zzounds.com/item--TNYREVEAL

Uhm, he wanted to know what a monitor AMP is.. not what a monitor is..
monitor amps are for when you have passive monitors I think...

Erm, while the claimed difference between a speaker and a "monitor" speaker is already questionable, the term "monitor amp" is complete bollocks.
Any amplifier with high enough quality works.

Heck, you guys recommend 3,2 GHz CPU's, thousands of MBs of RAM etc and I'm here with my AMD Athlon 1,8 and 256 MB of RAM and I'm so happy with it I'm not even planning to invest in my computer for now...
I think it's really not needed to buy anythingto START making music. After some time (very soon actually) you'll get to the point when you know what you need.

WHATEVER. In Israel we have a similar term to speakers and amp so I confused them. I don't know if "monitor amps" actually make a difference but I think most professionals won't use passive monitors without an amp designed for monitors.
