The Mimic Music Competition
This is a competition in music creation, but unlike a normal contest the aim is not to create the best that you can, but instead to mimic the style of your fellow musicians. That's right! Pick a style of music you'd like to replicate and get to work. In the end your work will be judged on the usual merits like technical complexity and creativity, the more biased and subjective emotional value, and on interpretive qualities of your work. To win you have to compose well, make it pleasant to the listeners ear, AND truly capture the essence of the composer you are going to mimic. How's that for a challenge?
While the goal of this compo is restricted to only one very specific and kinda unique style of music, the execution is quite liberal. You can mimic any fellow tracker, musician as well as commercial artist (like Queen Latifah or Queen). But that's not the end of it. You can go after movie soundtracks and film composers and try to recreate a background for a film storyline. Create a better fitting musical masterpiece for Star Wars, or recreate the style of John Williams. You can also use nothing more than your voice and sing like Aretha Franklin, or record your own flatulence and use it for a Kurt Cobain-like punchdrunk singalong. All you have to do is be inspired. By someone or something musical. Take that inspiration, tell us who/what it is that inspired you, make your music, and we will say if you pulled it off or not. Because we rock.
In the spirit of the compo try not to use your own "tricks". You should compose as if YOU ARE the guy you are mimicking, and not mix your style and his/hers.
Also in the spirit of the compo i'd like to ask the contestants to mimic fellow trackers or "sceners" if possible. Or go for a more unique approach like soundtracks. As a last resort go after big time celebrity musicians. This is only a guideline and NOT a rule. I'd like to have people who know each other and know each other's music go and mimic each other. But if you want to do a song inspired by Hendrix or Faith no more, then do it. It will be judged fairly.
Just in case you draw inspiration from something less known, be sure to provide the audience with an example(hopefully legal or close to it). It is a sad fact that not everyone in the world has seen movies like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Braindead, or even Clerks. Do something that can give us an idea of what you're going after and what exactly you are recreating. As a last resort, write a description.

| So is Provos the only one at CTG man enough to take on this challenging challenge? Remember, you're not only challenging other musicians, you are also challenging yourself! |

whoa! i remembered my old pwd! hooray!!!
A quick thanx for the interest in the compo, and a big hug to s-f for spamming it for me. Some peeps have found this a challenging goal, but i guess OHC veterans have extra experience. Some of you are partly to blame for my idea even though you probably dont know it.
Cheers
