Let's face it. Our music stinks. In general. The market if flooded to the brims and OVER with music. On one hand newly produced, on the other parth e legacy of hundreds of years worth of productions ready for sale.
Even if you don't aim at selling your music, why not pick something out of the huge archive and let it go with that. Do something productive with your life for a change?
Music gets us nowhere, and nowhere is where it gets us. How purposeless have nothing been like the random production of notes and beats from our computers.
For it is not music that makes us strive and prosper, it is silence in both life and beyond.

Why do people make demos? Why do kids paint, or play? Why do teenagers play arcade games? Why do we have sex with condoms? It's all a waste of time, and it's purposeless...
Unless someone mentions things like fun, or inspiration. How about hobbies, curiosity or at least boredom. There are many reasons why we do purposeless things, and those things are precisely the things that make us happy in life. And an unhappy life is not meant to last.

1up, your post reminds me of an excersize of viewpoints I did a few ages back,
what I did was write two versions of how the world looks:
[The world according to a cynic]
The world isn't a happy place, it's a place where everybody just
acts happy, because nobody is truly happy, we all have things we
want, things we lust for, but in the end, we all die tired and old
and never having furfilled the dreams we wanted to make real.
Those of us who managed to live the dreams, have to sacrifice
their minds and their morals, and their friends, when they
have achieved their dream, they're nothing more than an
empty shell of themselves, even lesser than the man or woman
who regrets never to have fucked that sexy girl/boy in highschool.
(at least they have a family, or at least friends)
So in all essence, the world is nothing more than a stupid
endless spiral of meat producing more meat, and excusing itself
for it by saying "I'm a person, i've got dreams, I've got a life"
In fact all humanity is, is just a function, a product of an age
old stupid program called DNA, our emotions aren't real, they're
just chemicals that make the illusion of emotions that aren't really
there, our relations are just meat trying to excuse meeting other meat.
Look at a machine making another machine.
There is humanity.
[A believers take on the world]
When looking at the world, I see promise, alot of evil and
alot of good, humanity is slowly embracing itself in a gigantic
hug which will span over everything sooner or later.
As molecules combined millions of years ago to the first cell,
humanity will combine into a great community, a place where
everyone and anyone will be accepted and loved.
Some say that emotions are chemicals, well screw that,
if they are, what difference does that make anyway?
Does it make my emotions any less real? Does it make my love
for my girlfriend any less real? no.. it just makes it into a
solid fact, if I have the chemicals, I have the emotions!
Most relations today aren't about having children, they aren't
about reproducing, it's about people growing into something
larger than what they are, it's about people learning to be
better to everyone.
When I see life, and I see growth, I see promise.
Now, looking back on these two viewpoints, I realize that both of them
are incredibly naive, the negative one sounds like your average "OMFG I R SO DARK!" goth wannabe who pretends being all cynical. While the optimist sounds like your average hippy new age stoner whose done a few too many joints over the years 
The world isn't what you think it is, it's alot more!
Same goes for music!

The reason I produce music is because i let go of my feelings, instead of beating the shit of people etc. I make music.
 or sometimes I just want to do something Im good at.

Please forgive me for not beeing clear enough about what I mean. This is _not_ about enjoying something for the sake of it, this is about the productive result that close to never is the result.
Like going to a gay exlusive bar looking for girls, music even if partly enjoyable is totally useless when it comes down to results. Silence is in fact a better way to reach productivity. That way you are setting yourself up to do more productive things for the good of society. A harsh but fair mind would argue that doing something else that what you do best is like stealing from the common good, backed up by the correct thought that if you would do what you do best, the increase in the common wealth if you _do_ pay taxes would increase.
Who are we to look upon ourselves as isolated individuals with the "right" to do as we please to make boredom a bit more easy to bare? Who are we not to step aboard the plain of production, look starving children in the eyes and say: I'd rather make music and enjoy myself than work productively so you will just have to starv to death - just like your mother.
What a shame. I can't see how you can possibly bear the burdon...

now it's getting political, btw how many musicians haven't worked for charity (and their own fame). Billions of dollars from around the world are going to the sake of the poor children. But what is it F***ING helping, as long as the goverments of the respective country and the charity organisations are corrupt... The only realistic solution for these poor contries is revolution, create better economy by stop importing a lot of things and start export, which require that they use their natural resouces better. And that they get better agriculture.
Thats why i enjoy making music
