Hm, interesting... I'm curious what kind of samples would deliver a fat sound?

Pretty much anything with some nifty effect prcoessing i.e. multiband compression. :)

If you've got any reccomendations for a good multiband compression vst, I'd like to hear them... I've tried a few, but none really give the really "phat" sound I'm looking for in my beats. I've gotten better results with a regular compressor preceded by a little bit of distortion.

In the beat?

I like this:

The disco example groove
The funky example groove
Phat trance sounds.

I would love if the beat would make you swing your body to it. :) More swing than straight preferrably. More exact words is hard. The feeling is more important. I've heard some good trance/dance beats aswell with a nice phat and warm kick and fine cymbals to go with it for example.

Is that description pleasing?

Edit: I'm fond of a rubbery kick for example. :)

Sure! The phatness is obtained by the Cubase native multiband compressor. I'm currently in another tune, but I'll post the pic for you pretty soon. You will se the bands there for reference.

All is relative, but considering my old lifeless kicks, that particular setting sure makes them go boom! :)

You can make your kicks go wild with a normal compressor too I suppose. It's all about the equalizer anyway. (and, maybe some neat little trick here and there)
New song again. I hope you'll all like and download it. (2089 hits)

Try experimenting from these settings:

Well, unfortunately, I don't use cubase... but I seem to have found a half decent multiband compressor which I'll be fooling around with in the future. The type of beat I'm looking to create is more of a prodigy/chemical bros style big beat. I know there's a trick to it, I just can't seem to figure out what it is. =(
