The whole point about this sort of thing is kinda to NOT simulate it I think... That said, Classic EQ is pretty warm sounding
Heaven is where the police are British, the
chefs Italian, the mechanics German, the
lovers French, and it is all organized by the
Swiss. Hell is where the police are German, the
chefs British, the mechanics French, the lovers
Swiss, and it is all organized by the Italians

Well, that's true, but not everyone can afford outboard vintage gear either, and I don't see anything wrong with at least trying to create a similar sound in a plugin that anyone can use and experiment with before maybe venturing out and spending thousands of dollars on outboard gear.
Currently I use a combination of iZotope Ozone's harmonic exciter and iZotope Trash's tape saturation with pretty good results, but I've yet to try Nomad Factory's Blue Tubes Bundle. I'm sure you'll find plenty more on KVR Audio.

here's a link to a whole page of free ones (there's an odd cookie issue that'll redirect you at first, so follow this link twice) : http://www.sadglad.com/harmonic.html
I personally use X-CITA

It doesn't look it to me.
That's what put me off it in the first place, but everyone has different needs of course.

There's two ways to go. The subjective sound and objective sound. I tried it out briefly and it warmed up the sound which was what I was looking for. And that's objectively usable for me.

What sets me apart from you musicians. Where you're concerned with making the sound warmer, I'm concerned with how much to make it warmer. The problem with rotary knobs is that you don't have that instant recall where you can set a value, change it, and refer back to your previous setting at a later time. With a knob (on a computer screen and using a mouse especially) it's like you only have one chance to get it right each time.
