What impact would a HD crash have on your music making ability?
Do you have backups etc?

An HD crash could be catastrophic depending on which HD. Obviously if it crashed my music projects HD I'd be pretty screwed (I really ought to back that up). The rest is fairly non-critical, i.e. OS or Game-oriented... more a pain in the arse, really.
On the other hand, Lappy386 only has a single HD.

That's teh risk we are all taking. The project folder and stuff.
I have backed it up a few months ago. But still, a crash would render all paths wrong, and that would in effect be like all songs are gone. At least the production. Pretty horrific. Pretty.

I'd go "oh man, fuck! this means I'll have to get a new HDD .. AGAIN!"
Then I'd get a new HDD, run a specialized recovery app written by a friend of mine, and my system would be up and running the same day.
Yes, I'm paranoid, and YES I take backups of my stuff.
(however.... I just realized that I have virtually NO backups of my encrypted materials such as hard to remember passwords and such)

Do you want to share that recovery system?

I constantly synchronize my data between my laptop and my PC... so if one drive dies, it's no problem at all, only the money
Oh, by the way... who is general failure and why is he trying to read my drive C:?

I don't have backups, and i personally love HD-crashes.
Nothing is like starting up again from scratch |
