Suggestions for improving CTG Music community

I don't want to end up in a discussion on what is a better approach and what isn't, as most of these views improve things, while also bringing along some "what if's.." and bad behaviour. It's just a checklist on what could be tried to improve things. If something gets to be tried or not all depends on the people in charge of the issue, so there is nothing set in stone obviously.

The point of this thread is to get an overview of thoughts floating around the community on how we think it's possible to create a better CTG experience.

I take no credit for most suggestions done below, as they were most of the time on other people's mind first. I just generally agreed it is an approach on improving the community, be it for the better or worse.

If anyone likes to add something I did not include yet or is not openly discussed yet, just reply and I'll update the list whenever needed.

Disclaimer

The following are just some suggestions from the community on what could be improved, be the approach for the better or the worse. It's in some cases the CTG staff who could decide to take action or not.

Reviews and ratings

- Come up with criteria for tracks they have to meet in order for them to be allowed to get reviews or not; needs more suggestions first; targets the amount of not reviewed songs to go down.

- Write reviews yourself to increase chance on your song to be reviewed too; common sense lies with the artist

- Get a reviewing team (again) to do reviews (suggestion : see Vangaurd thread); needs to be organised within the community

- Increase the period in which an artist needs to write reviews in order to release another tune (suggestion 1 month? maybe lower the current amount of reviews (7) to something like 3, for those who find writing reviews hard?). This to (somewhat forcefully) increase an artist's dedication to the community, by making him write more reviews. <<< probably way too forceful as pointed out in thread below

- Being able to rate the tune without needing to review / maybe do a separate 'community rating' next to review rating, that acts more like a quick vote <<< probably a good idea, as pointed out in thread various times

- Allow reviews to be written with less chars then 400 chars (suggestion : 200 or 300 maybe?), to make reviewing a track more easy to do, without having to repeat too much information just to fill up the required characters

- Implent different review systems, ctg staff reviews versus community reviews; see Masenka's reply down the thread.

- ...

Charts

- Get a more variating chart system. Maybe tweak the variables that make up the charts to weight more or less heavy towards a chart position. There is a suggestion on a penalty system down in this thread, but according to xTr1m it already has that kind of system based on song age.

- ...

Forum

- Put 'Other' and 'Chat' together in one section

- Get descriptions of what to post in each section on top of each section's page

Heh that's a point of view most of us should try and take for a change I guess. :bravo:

I'm not saying the community is in bad shape either. Just a thread after the 'Safe the CTG MUSIC community' which made me wonder what is up here I guess

As I was listing out the possible things, to understand and see what could be used to target a small issue, I just might as well share it and gather the rest of the community ideas into one single thread, sharing thoughts instead of going into sometimes rather pointless discussion in different threads. (me included)

Well, at the end of the day.. the way I see it... is that this is a web site, where people talk and post music.

And thats it. Its not a multimedia experience, or a way of life.. its just a page where we share our thoughts, have a chat, and post our music, and listen to other's music.

Im sure there are probably a lot of things which can be improved, by why bother, really? Just my two bobs...

If more people would read John Marwin's manifesto on review ratings, the world would be a much better place.

If more people would return all the fricking reviews they get, the world would be even better. (I may take a few days to return mine, but at least I get them done)

Charts are fine the way they are because they work by popularity, just like real life.

Another reviewing squad would be nice. Pluks' squad disappeared because Pluks went away and took all our motivation with him

Ya, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" and I agree.

But like, everyone has a different opinion about what is broken and what isn't :(
I wonder if some in the community aren't maybe a little greedy at times  But this should not be the thread to go into discussion on that, as these are merely suggestions that could result in something better if trougly thought out ;)

Stop worrying so much about reviews.

"OH NOES xyz TRACKS HAF NO REVEW!!111lol"

It doesn't bloody matter. YES, reviews are nice, especially to those developing their skills, but having songs which don't have reviews isn't going to cause the end of the world. It's not going to cause a solar implosion resulting in a black hole up your butts, so just... get over it.
