In general, play nice, use spell check, write detailed and insightful reviews, send a pm to people who've reviewed/commented on your tracks. And most importantly - have fun with it!
Now, to get yourself heard bigtime, you'll need contacts... try meeting up with some djs in local clubs and offer some exclusive tracks for their use - djs love haveing something on their tables that nobody else has. And buy them a beer after their set. Very important.
After that, send contact info out to event organizers and to try to land yourself a gig.
Finally, always remember this - you get what you put into it
That means no girlsunless you put some effort into it. If that doesn't motivate you, I don't know what will.
p.s. scandals, wild sex during the after-after-party, and getting outragiously drunk are good things, but only in moderation.

stay away from "friendly record reps" that seem "young and cool".. these guys often cheat you into a bum deal. Read every document, trust nobody but yourself, don't accept legal advice from a lawyer they pay. (chances are he'll lie to you)
Now, getting heard on ctg is fairly straightforward: make trance, make a remix of a song that some famous trance guru has made and hype it in the forums and you're set
The best way to get heard would be to ask those that you know from the scene and has gone pro, if you don't know anyone, I'm sure there's a ton of people over here know somebody who knows somebody

| From your profile I conclude that you are just taking off now. My advice is to focus on music first, you'll have plenty of time to think about promoting yourself. Work hard and become good (or very good) at what you do. Ask experienced musicians for musical criticism and advice. Develop. Without that, getting heard means nothing, becuase you'll be heard once and forgotten. |

First of all: hey, you're as old as me!
Second: read the KLF's manual, "How to have a #1 the easy way" or something like that I've seen it floating around the net.
Third: Get skint and apply for the dole.
Fourth: you do realize those above aren't serious advice

Very true, that... be very wary of the "we'll make you famous!" claims. Studies show that something like 90% of the profits from records by the high profile artists like, say, Madonna, or Coldplay (or any other big name) pay for the massive flops they (the record companies) sign. (souce: cm special, "getting yourself heard")

It would be great, the only problem is that all the bandwidth requirements would probably destroy this site in the end

most important is to make an absolute motha focking ass kicking song!
then you really have to send alot of demos to different record labels...i mean ALOT!
many times to same label..(nope i havent done that, and i never will)
there are millions of artist who thinks same as you!
So getting huge as Madonna is like "one of a million"
Good luck and i hope you will go there you want!
