What do you all think about this?
Probably a thread just for swedes... But other people are more than welcome for a political discussion as well.

As for me, I think the change is GREAT!

What a mysterious topic. Does it mean you have a bluesy anthem now?

Oh, we love Sweden our country,
and the blues, addictive blues.
We don't need no troops, infantry,
coz we got our lovely blues.

Supposedly, after years of centre-leftish governments, a centre-rightwinged party , Moderaterna, has won the elections for the first time in a kazillion years and now
Sweden has a right-winged political alliance.. I think they mainly want to create
more jobs, but also cut down on the social services and lower the taxes for businesses to give an impulse to get more people to work.

I guess Sweden will still remain a very social country, as its social system is
very big and 'even' people with a good income seem to be very willing to pay more
taxes to financially support the people who need it. A well developed healthcare on
top.. Holland can learn a thing or two from Sweden..

We'll see what this new government can do. If they're smart, they'll introduce the Euro ;)

Well. To introduce the Euro can be hard. We did have "public" vote
about this, and voted no.

But yes Botb, you are very much familliar with the political aspects of this ^^
For me, it´s really a Nightmare. Not economically for myself, but for alot of
my friends, and people around me. Im also afraid of what the rightwing can
do outside Sweden. We have thrue the years been quite friendly in our
global politics, but from now on I guess we are gonna see alot more Swedish
millitary outside Sweden, and probably in all the wrong places.
A politican high up in the new Goverment did even want to send economical
aid... To Israel, during the Israel/Lebanon conflict.

And as said, the want to bring down the unepmloyment money.
They are also going to sell out different companys that now belongs to
the goverment. I think the rightwing will do it better then last time though
(early -90), since we have a much better economy in Sweden now, wich
they can use for their own benefits.

Anyway, Im sad that all over the world, capitalism, and
rightwingers take control. Very very sad...

If I wasn't more familliar, I'd think the Socialdemokratiet Arbeitpartei (Social Democrats) have been in power continuously since... well... 1936 or something.

But they havn't. They were out of power between 1976-1982, 1991-1994.

I was expecting Göran Persson to win, honestly. I know Sweden's politics are dominated by the Social Democrats. In fact, they're the only Scandinavian party which has been in power for... hell, almost forever.

This is probably because of them building up the huge welfare state and the "Swedish model". And possibly also because the rightists weren't centrist enough.

But now? Well, they threw 'em out after 12 years. And the opposition only has six seats more than the red-greens. They probably will do some not-very-radical stuff. Tax cuts, spending cuts, unemployment reforms, that shit... Well, nobody has the guts to actually attack the Swedish model anyway. They probably took a hint or two from Schröder.

Personally, the only thing important to me in this election is how many seats did the Piratpartiet (Pirate Party) win, and if they influenced the copyright policy of the Moderaterna and their coalition.

So, it's :fwell: to 12 years of Social Democrats.

Gotta hand it to Tage Erlander though. 23 years in power? Now that's a record.

I think Piratpartiet got about 0,5% of the votes.
4% is needed to get into "parlament" (dont know the right word).

Sverigedemokraterna (A very right wing party, closer to nazism then leftwing)
got about 3%, and in some areas, they got as much as 25%.

Brr...

Maybe maybe, Socialdemokraterna can, in opposition, throw out some not
so realistic, but heartfull idea´s. When running the country, you need to back
on alot of things. When in opposition, you can speak about what really is importent ^^

80,1 % of the swedish people voted in the election.
I doubt the 19.9% are mostly Rightwingers. Most of them are surely left people.
So, they need to get their act togheter.

It's a setback for environmental issues, equality, culture and international aid, so I find it sad.

I think it's a rather weird election, not much of it was spent discussing matters because quite frankly, the parties are soon going to have the same agenda. (ie, every party has moved towards a more centerist politics standard)
This election was spent flinging shit at eachother, which is rather unbecoming of parties that should instead focus on the matters at hand, it's all been very ridiculous.

What I think is surprising is that so many idiots (hi mom, yes you're an idiot) voted for the fascist party Sverigedemokraterna, these guys have done NOTHING in the cities they have seats in, I know because they've also got two seats in my city and so far they haven't really bothered to do anything except submit suggestions that are basically copies of old suggestions that other parties have sent in ages ago.
(in sweden they're called "motioner")

They even at one time ripped off large portions of the enviromentalist party's homepage, and have been known to attempt to manipulate online votes to gain more publicity... people like this should be thrown out from any civilized circuits in my opinion. But, seeing that the previous rulers (the socialist party) did next to nothing in terms of trying to integrate the immigrants into swedish society, this result wasn't completely out of the blue, but this is rather alarming still.

As for the pirate party's unsuccessful attempt to get into the parliament (riksdagen) I can only say that getting 0.5 after less than a year's existance is fairly good numbers if you look at previous parties emergances. But, I must say that much of this can be attributed to the resistance that this party has faced from both the media and the other parties, from what I've heard on their forum alot of people have been sabotaging the voting ballots and in some instances even thrown their ballots out!
(and this party doesn't exactly have that much cash to begin with !)
So, it turns out that cash is still king I'm afraid. :(

Edit: as for everyone who didn't vote, I'll assume that they didn't agree with any of the parties that were up this year, and decided to show their displeasure by not voting at all. Because remember, if you vote a blank vote, you vote for the winner. So, voting blank means that you throw your vote away, giving the parties that you dislike even more power to control you in ways you don't like. And fuck everyone who says it's your "duty" or that you can't complain, NOT voting means that you're complaining in the loudest way possible by saying "fuck all the parties"

That's weird.. In Holland it's the other way around..
NOT voting and your vote goes to the biggest party, a BLANK vote is
a vote that goes to nobody. You sure it isn't like that in Sweden, coz you could
get the UN to change that, y'know ;)
