i was wondering if there is a tool that could make mono tracks real positional stereo?
some apps make the sound to wide or to narrow.
i would like a tool that could take an input like this: this is the mono sound, now, make it like it is coming from 25 degrees to the right in a room that is 5*5 with plaster walls and carpet floor.
so, has anyone found something similar?
that sounds real? |

Ariesverb is a free room simulation tool. It can be quite effective, but if you aren't careful it can make your sounds a bit thin.
I used to think I had a very refined sense of humour, and that's why people never laughed at my jokes. Now I've realized that I'm just not funny.

The best methode is to redo your whole track and add panning wokr on each instrument. Try to keep it balanced (example: 1 hihat planned to the left, an other hat should be panned to the right). If you want to give more depth to some instruments you should use some sort of a stereo extender or widener. There are loads of effects which can do this. Even some freeware I suppose.
But when you have your track encoded in mp3 format and thrown away your source file, than it could be more difficult. It's almost impossible to get a full mono track more stero, because the mix has to be good enough to do this. I can't image a good effect which make a mono track into a good stero track, because it can't pick out every sound particulary |

I don't know if that's the problem for klikaso, but why try to make your mono tracks to stereo, when you can also change the panning of the sounds in the music program itselves |

If you reread the original question, I think he wants to position a single track (read : single track of possible 1 sound, not track like in full song from multiple sounds) somewhere in a virtual 3d cube represending a room, where the sound automatically gets delayed and reverbed in a way it sounds like it is played in that room for real.
That Ariesverb, like xa mentioned, seems to be capable of it, but I couldn't see any presets in the screenshots there to make it easier to simulate a 5*5 room with plaster walls and carpet floor for example though.
@Saik: I don't think we have anything on our setup that can do that right? We indeed just work out the panning, delays and reverbs for each sound ourselfs and nothing there that makes it sound like it is recorded from a certain room with certain walls or anything. Don't think we we actually need it either, but that's because of our style of course.

it is actally more about stereo delay, and less about reverb.
as i found out ( very recently ) directional feel of a sound comes mostly from a small time delay when sound reaches each ear, and some filtering ( very small amount , because of defraction of waves around the head)
the perception of the reverbating space, the size of the room, depends mostly on a predely ( or early out , or something similar).
some time ago i got a copy of adobe audition, and imported some tracks.
there was a tool, something like spatial analyzer (or something). it showed that all tracks were wery wide.
i used stereo expander and narrowed every track individually. everything sounded much more clear than original.
now, since trial period has expired, a am looking for, if possible freeware tool that can do the same.
i think that paning in reason and fl changes just the intensity of the sund in left & right channels.
this is not an issue if you are making fast and loud music, but in softer, slower stuff it would geatly contribute to the feel. |
