So whats up ppls? I am in a musical rut right now. Cant seem to concentrate on finishing some music here because I am too distracted... :wall:
busy with school, work, and i keep thinking about this girl i cant have :col:

what do you do, to step back, take a breather and find motivation and inspiration?

empty your mind?

listen to music similar to your style?

listen to music completely opposite to your style?

read a book?

you tell me :fwell:

Boredom, everyday stress and sometimes pure inspiration.
Boredom i kill by reading music production material, everyday stress - make music, pure inspiration - well I never quite get the sound I'm looking for but getting closer and closer.
Sounds kinda lame I know but if you are in a complete runt try going experimental for a while.
Good thread btw and hope this helps :D

lay off the music for a while, or just start to compose weird shit you'd normally deem too "trashy" for your regular taste, that's what I do.

I just make up some random song and go with the flow, not caring if I mess up
or detune something too much.. the end result often sounds like shit, but
somewhere in the song, there's something ingenious that sparks one's
attention.
Signature.

New years usully gives some weird kick but the mood is the key when i make...
but im again on that 0% inspiration...and sudden when i try to make something, 1 of 10
is really gonna be some music...

best advice is: Dont seek the inspiration coz it will come sooner or later!

My inspirations has been low...but somehow i managed to compose Act 1 scene 12
And Act 2 Scene 6
"....How can you hear what is right or wrong?...."

I don't know... Everywhere and everythings could be my new inspiration, the important (like oZostomia say) is don't try to "create" an inspiration, just wait...

Only advice I can offer, is not to force it! just go about your business as usual. If it's going to return, it will :)

My inspiration can come from anything.

Internet for example.

Or I'm just bored and fucking around DeviantART 'till I see some image that gives me a title and an idea for a new song :)

Or movies. I like movies.

Or videogames. I'm better now at integrating videogame samples into my tunes.

Or listening to my huge "download" and "download commercial" folders. Right now I kinda have a small problem though. Too addicted to RHCP. Can't seem to double-click on anything else in the latter folder.

EDIT: I recommend reading Chuck Palahniuk's "Fight Club". There's a good book there.
