Inspiration finds us, instead of we finding it.
Read a book, write a proze, start a fight..
Do something to surprise yourself. It always works for me.

Actually, that's a good point. Check out internet radio stations (I personally like di.fm, it has everything between vocal trance to new age to ambient to dnb) and try to emulate a song that's playing - chances are, what you make won't sound anything like what you were listening to, but it's a great way to get a song started
review a song, get a free beer!
new song! provos - Dreamseeker (1119 hits)
slightly newer song! provos - Radience (1005 hits)
even newer song! provos - Chrysalis (911 hits)
teh zombies omg! (2243 hits) |

To be honest, I believe in inspiration but I think it only afects a small portion of the final result.
As a musician, when playing in a band, I guess I just let myself go and things happen naturally. The thing is to listen to lots of different genres and musical approachs, that way you expand your possibilities.
As a composer/sound designer things are more complicated because you have to do something that fits the sonorization purpouse. It must have musical quality but it has to be a complement to the rest of the elements.
Inspiration just comes after dedication, I guess...
Best Regards,
André Fernandes. |

Remix Something! ^^
If not that, then anything . Throw a few msg´s around.
Worked for me several times. If you dont have someone close to
you in "real" life, then cooperations online is a really nice way to expand your
understanding for other ppl, and expands your own knowings of music.
Make something together with someone else, or work with a remix, where there is
almost "finished" samples to work with, and just play around more with your creativity,
rather then concentraiting on building up the whole picture yourself.

Where do I get inspiration? It's a good question.. Well I listen to a lot of music. A LOT OF MUSIC. well I listen to mostly heavy metal music ( I don't know why, I like it, and I play the guitar ). Pantera, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater, Children of Bodom, Metallica, Joe Satriani to say some.. then I listen to demoscene music, which is completely opposite, like some old chippie tunes. Jazzcat, Karsten Koch, Elf, Lizardking, Dune..
But when I start composing something, my mind is completely blank.
There's just nothing there.. It's just time to create music of my own.
