Yes. Artists need more feedback.
Take a look at the new songs page - all I see is a longggg row of "rate it!" buttons. None of the new songs have been reviewed. How sad is that?
I say, you have to write a handful of reviews to upload a song. Remove the thing where the count goes down each day, and make it so you have to write a certain number of reviews to submit a song (let's say two reviews)
Also, add a "review the review" system like garageband's system. If a review is marked extremely low, then this raises a red flag somewhere and it's slated for deletion, pending revision and/or possibly another dude countermanding that.

Hey Randor! dont get me wrong, but how many times has this topic been on the table?. There are *always* going to be people who want it changed... heck, I battled like hell to get it changed... but then I changed, because I realised there is nothing wrong with the policy (apart from the 1-10 rating system, which I feel is a pile of bollocks! ), just the reviewers themselves, you know, the ones who give out reviews that are pathetic and hold no valuable information for an artist to take home with them. "omg I liek this track it r rly coolio and it maeks me want 2 dacne!!! omg yeah it's teh best".... Can I have my song in the promo list now so I can get more downloads???
The policy...You can change it over every single day, and there will always be someone unhappy. The people who get regular good feedack, are the ones who give it out - people who dont, dont get feedback. Since I stopped giving reviews out, reviews on my own shit has dried up too, a choice I made because unfortunately reviews with scores attached to them dont hold any weight with me anymore. So I figure it'd be hypocritical for me to continue reviewing.....
Even though I have a general dislike for scoring, I dont believe that CTG should change anything at all, because there are others who will completely disagree with my feelings on a rating system, and there's nothing wrong with that! we're all different afterall. It's my opinion that the reviewing system is what people make of it, and if people write shite, then it will be shite, if people write well, which I know a great deal of this community are more than capable of, then it will work well.
As for the people who whine they aren't getting feedback, when they are not giving feedback out themselves, should shit or get off the pot, in my opinion . (I got off the pot, for the record )
So, who's got some pie for me? that soap box speech made me hungry.

| Slammer, I wont get you wrong. Its just that there's no use for music site where 10% of tracks never get feedback at all-people might well go to a Mixposure or other sites where they get that feedback. Its a question of CTG's value for artists. without feedback its zero since we haven't managed ( I havent) to bring listeners here. So much I'd like to keep high standards, there's no use if most of visitors are bots...... |

Wanna just make it so you can attach a rating to a comment if you want? (If you're logged in) I certainly wouldn't care, and having ratings on most of the songs (Even if they're freaking meaningless) would draw in the listeners Randor spoke of.
But frankly, ratings don't mean much on those other sites... Nobody seems to give anything but tens of Acidplanet

Is there a CTG mission statement somewhere that I could read?

Personally I could use some _good_ feedback on our tracks. And I don't mean you should give 10, but serius evaluation. Ok, when you review a track of ours, we propably won't do those changes to that particular track, but take it under advisement when we're working on a new one. That's how it's always been.
That previous statement was for the "more strict" policy. On the other hand, I feel the reviewing system should be changed so, that the people listening to your tracks could have somewhat free hands to say how they feel about a musical piece. AND give the rating. I know most of the producers around here don't give rats ass about the ratings, but they in fact do count to some people.
Personally, I'd like to see the reviewing-system as easy as possible, so that any artist could have all the feedback they can possibly get. Ok, there may be reviews suchs as "This track is terrible! Do better!", but who actually will bother to reply to that? Everyone has an opinion about something, let's just live with it.
And when I'm sober again, I will check this post, and possible correct somethings I have said
Serg M - I Can't Stop It (valve remix) [trancetribe recordings] OUT NOW @ www.beatport.com!!
Eagus - Heaven Emptiness (autio & maattala remix) [revelation records] OUT SOON!!
Valve - Farlight (original & andy piney remix) [neuroscience recordings] OUT SOON!! |

No, unless you are able to read my thoughts. Its just how I consider everything, knowing to be a despirately pragmatic person. |
