With a community this big, there is bound to be a few coders here. I was wondering what kind of music you like to listen to when you code? Are there specific genres or specific artists that help you concentrate? |

Not much difference in my listening habbits between when I'm gaming or coding, although with coding I don't do much pounding 4/4 party beats (younger brother being an exception). Those are better suited for race and action games
So for coding, when I'm bright and awake I go with Ultimae records stuff, mostly Carbon Based Lifeforms and Solar Fields. Makes me relax a little, so things feel more smooth.
When I need to stay awake or get something done fast I go with Shpongle, Younger Brother and Ott. Twisted records stuff. Works better in those situations
Ultimae's Fahrenheit Project compilation discs always work for me.
As of lately I'm also listening Boards of Canada and very rarely some other wrap records IDM stuff, although I usually don't get Aphex Twin like IDM mess while coding, so I usually prefer sticking with ambient/trance stuff instead

I mostly go with old acid flash records with the odd techno album here and there...
But, I rarely code anymore though..

I don't really code either, but when I do something I have to focus on I can't listen to music I really love. If I do, I'll just end up only listening to the music and not doing anything else.
that solo's awful long
but it's a good refrain |

i used to listen to some relaxing (mostly enigma and some lord of the dance ) and a few not-that-relaxing stuff (Global Undergrounds, etc) but 3 or 4 years ago i started to notice more and more harshly that listening to music while coding has a bad effect on the speed i complete a prog so since that only my comp fans remained. nowadays it even disturbs me when there's some music in the background. |

Chillout and DnB is what works well.. Chillout to keep me mind calm for good focus, and DnB for those moments that it doesn't work as it should and you get frustrated
You can ask me hundreds "why don't you" questions, answer will be, because it works that way too. - xTr1m |
