Parallel compression? Sounds oddly like sidechaining to me

It's not, not at all, have a track here which uses this tech on the kick if you are interested, there I use sidechaining and paralell compression
this track Afterburn

I might be misreading the original post, but this is not what parallel compression is.
To my knowledge, parallel compression is a comprassor on a send of a master track.
For example, you would pipe your output of the master track through 2 distinct signa paths: 1) clean 2) through a compressor with a very low threshold.
You then adjust the gain on the compressed signal to taste. Notice that this method does not squash peaks because you're always mixing the clean signal ...
The easiest way to do this is with a vst compressor with a wet/dry knob.
My newest tracks:
No Space (sonus' fan the flame remix)
Quench
A New Vision (vocal edit feat. Henriette)

Next you mix the original signal with the compressed signal, after you have adjusted the levels you have a "thumping" yet dynamic instrument.

Mixing the original signal with the compressed one is the same thing as putting it through two distinct signal paths or using a wet dry knob, perhaps I should edit my post, this seems to create loads of confusion here.

Parallel, side-chain, upside-down compression and all these numbers mean nothing to me.
I like to do it all by ear...

I prefer upward compression, also known as low-level compression.
Anyway, I might reply more indepth to this topic later (compression is my other middle name).
The high is worth the low. |
