This is an idea I had a while back about how to get the community to review more unreviewed songs. I didn't post it at the time because I didn't have the time to start the chain... and I still don't, but I think it's still a decent idea that the community should know about.

So, here's how this thread will work: If you want a review, you must Review 2 songs
- One being a song my the previous poster
- One which is a previously unreviewed song.
In return, you will recieve a review from the next poster

Here's the process you will have to go through to get your review.

First of all, you must post a message in the thread saying "Challenge accepted" so that nobody else will attempt to review for the previous poster at the same time as you. If they did, it would wreck the logic of the thread, and ruin it for everyone. If someone else has already posted "Challenge accepted" after the last set of reviews, do NOT start the process on your own until they're done.

Second of all, you must review a song from the last poster. Then, review a previously unreviewed song.

Using the post format provided below, post which artists and which songs you reviewed in this thread, and the next poster will review one of your songs.

Of course, the thread MUST BE IN ORDER. If you don't follow the rules of the thread, it will ruin it for everyone, and someone will have to clean up the mess before the process can be started again. If this happens, the thread will have to be halted until me (and perhaps the review team?) clean things up.

Here's the format for the posts:

[PAYBACK REVIEW]
Artist:
Song title:
Link:

[NEW UNREVIEWED REVIEW] (How's that for an oxymoron? :P )
Artist:
Song title:
Link:

This isn't a flawless system, but hopefully it will help drop the unreviewed track count.

I was goign to start this by posting 2 reviews of unreviewed songs. (to compensate for the fact that I would be the first poster).... but unfortunately, as I stated above, I don't have time to do so at the moment. If someone here likes this idea, feel free to post a message saying "challenge accepted" and then review 2 unreviewed songs. As an incentive, I promise that I will review a track from the person who starts the chain sometime in the near future. Please, as I've said above, follow the rules I've layed out so that this doesn't get messed up.

Did you get this idea at soundclick? Posted a topic like this there about a month ago, were 3 reviews, but still same thing. Didn't work out becouse staff had to watch it very closely as there were people who didn't review at all that posted tracks anyway. Nice idea in theory though.

Hang on, so, you put the mixture in a tin, place in the oven at 200 for 30mins...no wait, sorry 190 for 25 mins...ummm.
Or was it a Pyrex dish......
Could you explain it again, please?

tyr: no, I did not... in fact, if you look at the rules I've layed down, my scheme shouldn't have such issues... but for the sake of argument, can you explain those issues and the thread you started a bit more in detail? thx.

Well, the thing I see wrong here is that it requires loads of work (editing, stuff like that), and to be perfectly honest, I think the additional review to unreviewed songs is somewhat of a waste of otherwise willing spirits, I mean, 2 for 1 are bad odds, 2 for 2 woud be much better since usually the unreviewed songs are by artists that don't review themselves. (I can give you statistic data to support this, have reviewed something around 50 unreviewed songs and gotten maybe 20 thank you notes)
Your instructions are also kinda complex, which leads me to belive you won't get many "takers", as Lord Wallace made quite clear with his comment.

Well, the thing I see wrong here is that it requires loads of work (editing, stuff like that)

I'm not sure I follow... the premise is simple... you review two songs, one from the person who participated last in the review chain, and a random one from any ctg artist that's not yet been reviewed by anyone... then you report which ones you reviewed in this thread..... I only added a post format to make things easier... and the initial challenge acceptance post is meant so that only one person reviews for this thread at a time... so we don't get a bunch of people annoyed because they're not getting their review back

and to be perfectly honest, I think the additional review to unreviewed songs is somewhat of a waste of otherwise willing spirits

the entire point of my idea is to get more people reviewing unreviewed tracks. I realise completely that this community declared it a non-issue, but I thought this would be a fun way to tackle the "non-issue" whilst giving people a way to get a guaranteed review for their own track (with a little work of course ;) ) .... so in short: the unreviewed song review was the reason I came up with the idea

I mean, 2 for 1 are bad odds, 2 for 2 woud be much better since usually the unreviewed songs are by artists that don't review themselves. (I can give you statistic data to support this, have reviewed something around 50 unreviewed songs and gotten maybe 20 thank you notes)

as I atated above, there was a big kerfuffle about unreviewed songs here a while back. This was an attempt to fix the "problem" and give people a sure-fire way to get themselves a review

Your instructions are also kinda complex, which leads me to belive you won't get many "takers", as Lord Wallace made quite clear with his comment.

I'm pretty sure Lord Wallace was trying to be funny... I could be wrong. Seriously though, once this chain starts, it will become very clear how my system works. If you have any questions about how to go about it, feel free to ask.

Isnt there something similar going on already, except that its much simpler, and still doesnt seem to be functioning properly?
Im referring to the review request market, and the fact that it doesnt seem to be very successful. I mean, tyr is the only one who actually reviews! No one else has answered a request of mine.
So if something simple and seemingly effective fails, why should something more complicated, that requires greater effort, work?

Because this is structured, where as tyr's review market is not... with my system, the last poster is guaranteed a review by the next poster. With tyr's, it's up to chance that someone will notice (or care about) someone's request. This is slightly more complicated, yes, but I designed it that way so as to ensure the system would not fail like to many other magical review generating ideas have. As I feared though, noone has yet to accept the challenge of writing 2 reviews to start it off. I'll up the stakes though... the first reviewer in this thread (who must review 2 previously unreviewed songs) will get 2 reviews from me. Just post "challenge accepted" if you're up to it.
