Even though I'm not a compoer, I wonder why this is the case, didn't anybody show up last night?

From what I heard, it was because the samples in the samplepack weren't tuned correctly and people were getting mad and complaining and slammy got very angry and just left.

i was there, and i was the one who complained about the samples. let me be the first one to apologize to slammy for this. i should have stated my opinion in other words.

having said this, i would like to state in general that an OHC is not, and should not be, about tuning samples. or making loops. these things should be taken care of the one who makes the samplepack. it is really not that hard, just sample a C from your synth or VSTi. it really kills the experience having to spend time tuning, when all you have is one hour to complete the song.

Slammy was just pissed because he is the one who ALWAYS host the OHC, and always makes the samples. In return he gets a lot of complains about wether the samples are tuned or not. I have to say I really understand this. There could be another one to host the OHC for once?

this is not true. there are compos almost daily in #mod_shrine on espernet. various people host them, i even host some of these myself every now and then. and it is generally agreed upon that samplepacks should be TUNED!

slammy has done great with his compos.. i really enjoy them a lot. so it is a shame that he quits. but if you host a compo, you should do it properly, and not be pissed when people complain about the obvious.

dang. what will I do now on sunday evenings? :badday: ;)

I just wanted to say that some of us continued with the compo even if a few whiners (and then slammy as well) left the channel... Slash took over the hosting.

Some of the samples were detuned, but so what.. Just tune what you need! It's the same for all participants. Sure, it can be sometimes slightly annoying, but shouldn't stop anyone from participating. Overall Slammy has done a great job hosting these compos.

I couldn't give a shit that people generally think sample packs should be tuned. Yes they should - but you know something? Why is it always the same people that never host, or make sample packs, that are the first to fucking complain?. Anyway, the reason I quit the compo, is because I have far more going on than some stupid OHC, and basically xerxes, and other people comments last night put things into perspective for me, and as far as I'm concerned, I wont be hosting any compo indefinately.

I'm sorry if this pisses people off, but come on? since when is OHC the fucking meaning of life?. I figured that out last night.

first of all, i have hosted my share of compos. not as many as slammy, but quite a few. secondly, i have made many samplepacks. all of which are in tune. and there are two reasons they are in tune:

A. i dont think people should be wasting their time tuning, when they could be spending it composing music.

B. in order to detune a pack, i would actually have to go in and detune each sample differently. this is more work than just leaving them as sampled.

i suspect slammy didnt make a samplepack, he just put together some sounds he had laying around without making sure they were in tune.

and this crap about meaning of life.. you think any of us view OHCs as the meaning of life? this is just a fun thing to do, and for me, even a source of inspiration. many of us spend lots of time making music, and its exhausting if everything you try to create must be a masterpiece. hence, a compo or two is relaxing.

and sure, i could have tune the instruments myself. but i really dont see the point. and this is what i told you slammy. if you want to take that personally, fine.. i was just making a point.

lastly, you should be able to take some critique without going off the deepend!
