I guess this is more relevant to the people who have been knocking around a bit, like me....
But I sometimes feel my best music is in my past, and that I'll never be as good creatively, as I have been. This is a pretty defeated attitude on my part, but if any of you have felt it before and conquered it, how did you manage it?

I think that there is always room for improvement. I've felt a little lack of inspiration a few times even in the short time I've been composing. It's the same with any art; creativity comes in waves. As long as you keep your mind open for new ideas and keep yourself surrounded in a creative environment (a.k.a. keep listening to music), you'll eventually get some ideas.
Feel the music in the step...

Sometimes I feel like I can't top "Untergrund" and "Sirrus Forest".
But then again, I made "Warmth" just last year.
So, I guess my ratio is at least one awesome song per year

| I've noticed, at least with me, that when I get into a funk where I think I can't write anything, I generally whip out something I think is awesome and I feel a lot better about myself. |

Absolutely. You obviously have some time on your hands at the mo Slammy cos you're doing plenty of reviews and AOTM. Maybe you should sit down at your keyboard, have a Slammy's night in, and just write for a couple of hours. CHances are you'll come up with some melody or chord progression that you will be completely hooked on.
Me....i've just started writing my best song ever yesterday afternoon

i think the question could be rephrased to "do you ever feel your most creative days are not the present ones?" - at least for me this seemed to work this way, after a while things became something like in the good-old-days - creativity-wise - then it fade to gray again.

whenever i make a new track i think "thats my best work yet" so seem to have been on an upwards curve for the last 18 months.
it would be frustrating if i felt like i was standing still, or going backwards. i think i would take a break for a month and come back to it all hopefully with fresh ideas. |
