i just want to say that, I can see why so many ppl are upset with him.
But Timbaland is my hero, he is the one that made me want to start with producing in the first place.. gotta love the beats. And he IS innovative, he was around longer than today. Just so you know.
I know I'll get burned for this but:
You guys should try to be in his shoes for a month having to keep up the new hits and ideas for your 'own'multimilionair label/company. For 10 yrs on the top, while there is so many free resources everywhere. That track made him probably about a quarter of a million. I bet he just bought a bigger pool and took a big dive while the demo scener is crying. Business goes on.
he can steal my ideas everyday, because I'm:
stupid enough to put them on the internet like this.
not good enough
dont have connections to make half a million from it before some else does..
I'll be upset if he would take my ideas without asking but know better then to make such a fuss. I would understand it, but still its wrong to just take the ideas, at least offer 100 bucks for the crap.. |
I was going to keep my mouth shut...but then I changed my mind.
First you're sympthetic to his causing stating that you're stupid enough to post your stuff on the internet even though by copyright laws you retain all rights to your music. Plus posting your music not only gives you a shot at the "big time" it simply establishes you as an artist so I don't see how that could be anything but smart.
And then you say that it is wrong just to take ideas but say 100 bucks would be fine for your supposed "crap." Why settle for 100 bucks? You're argument would surely be that it's better than nothing. But is that what you really want the demoscene and the rest of the underground producers to be? Slaves to corporate labels and big name artists who are willing to shell out a few hundred bucks to make all legal problems go away. I'm sure not, and I certainly hope that's not what the music industry is moving toward. But honestly, the saddest part must be that the only people that care are people "involved" and "invested" in music with both their time, money and skill because they seem to be the only ones who can truly "appreciate" music.
One of the most painful things to witness this week for me, was the release of the music video to "Do It." It was posted on youtube, and knowing the controversy, I checked it out. I almost cried when approximately one of every two comments was..."I really like those electronic beeping sounds in the background, I wonder how Timbaland did that." So know it seems that not even the average listener has a clue.
Last, in my honest opinion, I REALLY don't think you would just willingly let Timbaland become famous off of one of your melodies after you realized just how rich you could become (and being scammed for only 100 bucks). I mean it's dreams we're talking about, something every producer would wish for (as well as a serious finacial gain and fame to continue those sought after dreams).
I'm sure there's a few logical fallacies in there somewhere but I'm too tired to really examine this at the moment.
No disrespect.

I'm good at flaming. Honest.
EDIT: this other video has people who know what shit hit the fan, so I don't have ta flame
The modern world is only endurable in small doses.

Yes, the intelligence on youtube and similar sites is quite striking isn't it?
Sometimes I'll come across a post that's so stupid, it nearly makes my brain melt from the shock.
