Xtatic, thank you! I got your votes and entry and I'm looking forward to hearing it.
John... "mouthless Zepsi for the win?" If Zepsi wins, I'm quoting you on the site.

If he wins, it'll be a landmark victory for all those mouthless people around the globe, yes.. Zepsi is a pioneer for all these orally challenged individuals!
*puts up a sign which reads :mouthlessness can happen to you too! donate to save the orally challenged!*
Also, I'd be honored to be quoted hahaha

I just cast them votes. I don't think the mouthless people will get much attention amongst these entries.
(Another orally altered song is my favourite in this round though. May it win it all.)
What a horrible night to have a curse.

Ah, but that's only because you don't know the results. And I do.

September's mini-compos have finished in The Novus Compo, and the results are up. A big thank-you to everyone who voted, and congratulations to Zepsi, Barry van Oudtshoorn, D Fast, Randor & Siida and Nygen Dale for winning their mini-compos! All 5 of them plus Louigi Verona as the wild card will now advance to September's overall compo to compete for your votes. Voting in the overall compo is open for the next two weeks, until Tuesday, October 2nd at 11:59pm New York Time. Make your voice heard... visit The Novus Compo today!

Alright, everybody, time to fire up the ol' CTG focus group. It's time for another possible tweak! Here's what I'm considering. All 4 of these changes really go hand-in-hand with each other, so I'd probably have to do all of them or none of them.
1.) 5 songs per mini-compo instead of 3.
This would make my personal tastes a lot less important in the screening process, plus it would cut down on some of my guilt at having to trim a song by one friend to make room for a song by another friend. I'm a recovering Catholic, so I feel enough guilt as it is. It would also, alas, slightly lower the overall musical quality, but hey, that's where the voters come in. If you think a song isn't good enough, drop it to the bottom of your ballot. No biggie. It also means more songs to vote on, but hey: the people that are voting in all 5 mini-compos now can just cut back to 3 mini-compos, and they'd still only be downloading 15 songs. And I appreciate ANY votes people want to cast. I won't guilt-trip you into voting on everything if you don't have the time. Just pick your favorite genre and roll wit' it.
2.) Eliminate the wild card from the overall compo.
Having 2 songs compete against each other in a mini-compo only to face off again in the overall compo just seems a little extraneous to me. I put the wild card in so that people who only voted in one or two genres could still hear a good 2nd-place song in the overall compo from a genre they didn't vote in. But all but one voter this month voted in multiple genres, and quite a few voted in all 5, so that really cuts down on the need for a wild card slot in the overall compo. This also has the added benefit of all 5 of the mini-compos AND the overall compo having the same number of songs: 5 each. Hooray for symmetry!
3.) Drop the voting requirement from 6 songs to 5 to be eligible to enter a song.
Just vote, and you're eligible. That's it! Makes this rule a LOT simpler. No more long paragraphs explaining, "Well, you have to vote on 6 songs, which can either be 2 mini-compos or an overall compo." Just vote, and you're eligible to enter. Hooray for simplicity!
4.) Change the voting scale to 3-2-1-0-0.
Right now, I use two different tiered point scales for voting: a 2-1-0 scale for the mini-compos and a 5-4-3-2-1-0 scale for the overall compo. Using the same scale for both the mini-compos and the overall compo just simplifies things. It also makes voting a little faster: you can concentrate on ranking your top 3, and you don't really have to worry about the bottom 2 songs, since they're both getting 0 points anyway.
If these tweaks don't work out, I can always revert back to the original system for November or even try out something completely different. My ultimate goal is to have something firm in place in time for January's compo, set it in stone and go from there. Early on is the best time to play with new ideas, so that's why I'm considering this now.
What do you guys think?

Your suggestion seems fair and reasonable to me. Voted 'for', even, as you said, no biggie |

Sounds good to me, although the "more songs to vote for, less Novus interference" is something that dosen't matter much to me. 3 songs is less to vote for, meaning there's likely to be more voters for more categories. 5 songs means less Novus influence (= more democratic). I don't think either weighs more than the other, so as I see it: go for whatever you decide.
What a horrible night to have a curse.
