Heya guys - it's been over 3 years since I signed up, so I'd forgotten how *easy* it is to get an account here...
the cialis spam is finally getting *ALL* over my f***ing nerves - now is the time to work on implementing account activation. When someone signs up, they have to put a legit email in, so they then have to activate the account before it can be used on the site.
Thanks
- slammy

Aww, I got modded? No sense of humor, Slammy.
But yeah, that is definitely a valid concern. Maybe get one of those verification systems where it flashes up a crazy-looking GIF file with letters and numbers in it that you have to type in to verify you're not a spambot? I don't know how truly effective those are, but it might be worth looking into.
(See? Give me enough time, and I eventually get on-topic! )
But hey, I wrote the Novus Manifesto, so what the hell do I know? |

*eventually* being the key word .
I'm surprised how little attention this thread has got in honesty - it happens at least once a week where some tit makes a new account, to tell us about the drugs he uses to maintain a stiffy long enough to please palmela handerson... account sign up verification emails are the way, come on guys, feedback!
""people have a right to believe what they wish... just dont ever try to push it on me, or I'll ram the 349343249page piece of tree down their throat!" - me on religion and the bible

Certainly i'm not a expert in this topic (i just know enough to maintain my tiny website), however it's very often that sites (like this one) have email verification system, that is something relatively easy to implement though sometimes happen that that email never arrives...

Slammy,
you could consider the option of adding a check box ("I'm not a spambot, I'm human!") which has to be checked first before being allowed to send a message / create an account / post a topic.
The captcha method (as mentioned by Novus) can already be bypassed by several spambots.
Cheers.
P.S. Bigger p*nis anyone?

Good point. But I must also say that I love when it is simpel too. Fill in some, press registrate, and you are done. Too many times I have been annoyed of all those "please check your email for activating code to become a full member" "write what you see in the picture to verify you are a human. Can you not see? (yes many times!!) reload it or hear it" bhaa bhaa!
If CTG take the same wave.. I am glad I already are a member. Honestly? I think less ppl join if a system have activation safety. "Oh no.. not this again, let's find another cool music site".
Ofc it is a good point, now when spam ppl have increased a lot... so perhaps it is best to do so.
OR.....why not make it like this:
Every new member must write a review to get access to all features! By then we can decrease many un-reviwed songs. MWHAHAHA (evil that would be!)

Well, get used to it, the Internet is full of robots, and we have to have some way to thwart them. We chose to implement a CAPTCHA. I'd rather inconvenience a user once for five seconds than to inconvenience them every time they check the forums.

I think you are wrong. Trax in Space implements CAPTCHA and people sign up all the time despite the CAPTCHA requirement.
