Hi ppl, I'm going to work with a label, but this is all completely new for me... What things do I have to know and what do I have to do before I sign the contract?

read the contract...then read it again....and then read it again just to be sure you read it atleast 3 times and understand exactly what's in it.

Yes, be exactly sure you know what you're getting into before signing anything. Think twice before signing a contract that might "lock you up" with the label. Check once again what is expected from you as an artist on the agreement, and of course what is expected from the label.
Or in just few words, check everything from the contract. If there is something that bothers you a bit, ask! From a producer friend, from an attorney or even the a&r of the label.

Yes I googled and on every place I read that artist contracts are complex things... so I'll read it very carefully... I'll let you guys know when I have the contract and what I'm going to do with it!

Let's hope that this is not like the sunrain was there was a compilation and so unexpectedly as it appeared it disapeared too .. i had contract and all
anyways ... i decided finally my label .. and it's in my homecountry |

Maybe you could meet the guy then, I have with the dutch labels I'm involved with. It's proven to be helpfull in some ways .

I disagree, in a lot of cases there are many more factors than money alone. In general music earns shit anyway, in these times especially. For fairly unknown artists a deal with little money and a lot of exposuure could turn out to be way better in the future .
Every contract needs to be thought through.
