Space Walk has won the first round of the Barryvan Compo. His entry, "The Depth" narrowly beat Nygen Dale and Nahkranoth's tracks. Congratulations, Space Walk! And thanks to all the other entrants, too. There were some really hot entries.
The Barryvan Compo is changing.
I think that a two-month turnaround is just too long. So I've changed it to a month-long compo: two weeks of entries, and two weeks of voting. Once again, entry is open to anyone who's interested for this round. Check it out at http://test.pbc.wa.edu.au/compo. This month's inspiration is a photo taken by Karloskarmi:
You can write whatever you like around this image. (Thanks to Novus for the suggestion to use a photo!)
I hope to see you all there. And once again, congratulations to Space Walk! |

| CLARIFICATION: Anyone is free to enter the compo. You do not have to have voted, entered, sent me money, danced the polka, stroked my hair, or given me a footrub to enter. Anyone can enter. |

Voting is open!
Three very, very different tracks are competing for your votes in this round:
- Sam_Zen's sounds derived from the bitmap;
- Space Walk's Secrets of Maya; and
- aGp's No Way Back.
Download 'em by using the links above, or head over to the voting page and read what the artists have to say about them, then cast your vote!
It's sure to be a close competition, so make your vote count! |

"Voting closes: 30th April, 2008"
"Note: all deadlines end at 11.59pm (Chicago time)"
That's about 33hr 15min from now, actually...

| Maybe you should do what novus does and require participants to vote, that way you get more votes. |

@ roncli: Thanks roncli. I'm in Perth, Western Australia, and I forgot that the webserver was in Chicago. (I'm too lazy to have implemented an offset yet). I was *hoping* no-one would notice!
@ arkarind: It'd be fantastic if you entered the next round! Less than twenty-four hours before the new inspiration comes out... Thanks for voting, too.
Voting and participating... The reason it isn't like that at the moment is that for the first couple of rounds, I just didn't receive enough votes, and some of them were from people I know wouldn't be entering ('cos they don't write music). Once it gets going a bit more, though, I'm gonna move to this model. It's just a flag I have to switch in the config file.
On the topic of changes to the compo, do you think I should release the inspiration for the next round a bit earlier? Perhaps I could release the inspiration for round x+1 when round x enters the "voting" phase. What do you guys think? |
