Dear friends!

I am happy to inform you that my long-planned project is online as public beta: www.disc-shelf.com

A lot of time went into the development, and now it is there for everyone!

Disc Shelf is a service which allows musicians to upload their music and beautifully present it to their listeners in form of albums: singles, EPs, LPs, audio books, promo discs and WIPs (work in progress). Each album receives a unique URL for distribution.

The whole idea of the project is to allow you to link to your musical works and offer your listeners a wonderfully designed album without ratings, comments, some weird menus and without it looking like a web page. Instead, it looks more like a virtual compact disc.

So, to sum it all up.
Why use Disc Shelf? There are so many similar resources on the Internet...

Disc Shelf offers several unique features, such as:

* Disc Shelf offers a concept of a virtual compact disc, something which looks more like a record rather than a web page with a playlist
* the ability to highly customize the look and feel of your album
* cd booklet
* the service is very easy to use, it is not bloated with unnecessary features
* the ability to embed your album into other websites (coming soon)

So guys, you are among my first musician audience to test the service. I invite you over to www.disc-shelf.com

Register, try it out and tell me what you think - your constructive advice may be of much help because I want the service to be really useful to all of you!

Louigi Verona.

ps: some time ago this kind of service was planned as CTG 2 =)

yeah, I made up my login and album but seems impossible to save Album Info. There's no save button and no matter what valuesI try to change, next time I look its on default. So my album has private status and default genres.....

very nice.

Few problems:

- URL bbcode-type syntax in album description seems broken.

Even following the example at the top of the edit box does not work, it seems to take the title of the URL but not the URL itself. I have left the two examples on my Shooter album profile for example.

- Where is the license policy, terms of service, agreement etc? Legal stuff.

- Cannot change colour of URL links within the album description. Defaults to blue and on a custom black background, well, obvious really. Addition of a custom CSS type or a preselction of available colours would be fine to get around this.

- Adobe flash 10 completely messes up the player if the MP3s are 48khz sample rate. Its not your players fault, though. It's a common problem across Flash 10. This is a drastic bug and has been reported to Adobe, there is a workaround in the meanwhile:

loadSound using a streaming of false, then call soundContainer.start() from the onLoad event

See: http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-862

If that makes any sense (doesn't to me).

- I can't seem to get back to the main page while logged in. What's with that? I would like to see other artist's stuff on there. I constantly get redirected to my own profile.

Niggling problems, well done over all :)

The "Done" button is at the end of the page. Sorry for that, I will make booklet editing a separate tag and it will be less confusing since less stuff will be on the page.

uh oh. I see it. typo in description: title

- Where is the license policy, terms of service, agreement etc? Legal stuff.

A bit later when I figure out a couple of things, most notably how do you write the legal stuff and is it necessary to write it in a confusing language they are usually written. In short the license will be very straightforward - the site owns only the right to display your albums (without this right the site obviously cannot function) but the right is non-exclusive and your works will not be used for anything else and you own the copyright and you can publish music released on Disc Shelf wherever you like.

- Cannot change colour of URL links within the album description. Defaults to blue and on a custom black background, well, obvious really. Addition of a custom CSS type or a preselction of available colours would be fine to get around this.

Yep, I'll do that.

loadSound using a streaming of false, then call soundContainer.start() from the onLoad event

Hm. I'll see if I can change the code of the player. Or maybe Adobe will fix the bug.

I will make the possibility to go to main page when you click on site logo.

All in all, very much thx for the feedback. I'll get to the code Friday so you'll see changes during weekend.

Uh oh! My dear Randor, I do see the problem (a small typo in code). FF fixes this easily but IE7 does not and simply does not show the element. Unfortunately I cannot fix it right now as I have no access to ftp and my code. This will get fixed Friday first thing. Uh oh, how bad...

Randor bug is fixed!

Several more things fixed as well - first of all, booklet editing is done in its own tab, so now you don't have to scroll down to find the Done button.

Also fixed description of the url tag.

In the near future: url tag will not look ugly blue, you'll be able to give it any color you want and it won't have a left margin as it does now (sorry bout that).

Color tag will allow FF0000 kind of values instead of standard colors 'green' 'red' etc as it works now.

And most importantly, soon the embed function will be available and you'll be able to plug your albums anywhere you want.

If it is possible to put this topic to news? I'd really want musicians from CTG to try out the service.
