What do people think are the main reasons for TIS and CTG going quiet?

Do you think it is due to larger music sites like Myspace?

Or maybe to do with some sort of global depression making people less bothered about promoting their music?

Or do you think that both sites are merely going through a slow patch?

I remember first joining CTG about 6 or so years ago and it was a bustle of activity. And when CTG started to dry up I went on to TIS2 about a year or two ago and now that's starting to dry up as well.

What say ye? I'd like to hear ya thoughts.

Maybe it is the fact that you joined the sites.
HAHA!
just kidding ;P !!!

On a serious note, I believe it is because of the easier methods of producing music and easier, faster, and cheap thrill way of making music, and distributing it.

I believe this new way comes at a high price in that it lacks in major quality and originality.

From my experience in trying to get some of my friends to join CTG I have noticed that many people are looking for Fame and Profile views, and just recognition, alot of it motivated by money.

so the new very lazy, quick, "no work, alot of gain" methods of making music, in combination with the very easy way to get publicity, fame, and the idea of making money on certain sites. Is I believe one of the reasons that not many people use CTG or TIS...
But I kind of like it.. because in a way these new sites wich contain many empty views, thoughtless feedback and shitty, lazy music have filtered out these people from the sites where now only the fittest reside.

so in conclusion I believe both sites are merely going through a slow patch.

:D

Because when CTG started there were not as many options now there are. Yesterday I found out that even facebook provides good music community.

And let us face it, CTG has been rather limited . I prefer using facebook and myspace for keeping in touch with the people I want.

But I have to say that internet has become less and less important for me. But generally I have found facebook as my favorite platform, it makes it so easy to keep in touch with people , by various means.

But in the end let me tell you a secret

I prefer CTG as it is, too many people usually screw up a site. Now there are only a handful but we are a happy family.

I think it's just what happens to most sites and internet things. Look at TiS 1&2, United Trackers, Modplug Central, MySpace (honestly, when did you last visit it?), your own personal site that you haven't updated in years, yahoo, livejournal, ICQ... And probably a thousand other examples. Right now we tweet whatever's on reddit and tomorrow we might do something else. It was fun while it lasted tho :)

Globally, there are not a lot of active communitites. Facebook and MySpace are not communities, they are gatherings of individuals - a number of cells, a number of personal pages. Those are not real communities.

The community needs drives - reason to exist. And this reason is always exchange of information. The way the music scene went it is difficult to exchange information musically. Sequencers don't exchange file formats well unfortunately.

I doubt the reason is that acecream left. I would say that acecream left because there was no community and he wasn't interested anymore. You can't seriously believe that the post tracking scene was there thanks to acecream and Saurin alone. So although personality matters, it is never a fundament of a community.
