I have just recently acquired Reason 2.5 and I have a problem... when i play back some of the demo songs it tells me my computer is too slow and it stops.
Below are my system specs....
Celeron 800 requires Pentium II 233
256 MB Ram reauires 32
64 MB Video
Windows ME
onboard sound (16?) reqauires 16
Seems to me I am probably ok but I should mention that I have a 16bit 6 channel sound card I am about to put in but i am waiting for a power supply (going from 250W to 400W). Can you guys tell me anything you see wrong that I could AFFORDABLY improve ? .. or do you think the new soundcard and power supply will do the trick ? |

Requirements Reason has vary much depending on the song you try
to play... more machines & FX, more CPU power.
So... It is (theoreticaly ) possible for you to play a particular song, but more and more artists try to use Reason to the limit, which is, if author has 2GHz machine,
for you unreachable. |

| That is correct. Reason eats lots of CPU, especially if you use malstrom and drrex modules, and some of the new effects. I also adivse at least a 2GHz processor, or the elimination of those instruments. You can though try to optimise the CPU usage by increasing the latency. |

I'm against, it needs bit patience and more work, but it's usable. I'm running it with PIII 800mhz Celeron, though I have 512mb memory. Don't use reverb and delay machines before you mixdown your song, just essential sound machines and so. You can also play just those tracks you working on, but that requires patient coz you have to mixdown song before monitor listening.
Oh, you need to adjust latency to the max. and you can even work with 22050hz quality.
All in all it's not impossible, just needs a bit creativity
Hooh, kingdom for new Mac G5!!!

Well i was ussing reason 1 on my celeron 333 for some year and it worked ok to some point so im sure your celereon 800 must handle reason 2.
You should play with the preferences a bit. Try to set lower sample rate, try to choose different audio driver (if you have more) and also set the buffer size to max. |

it doesn't depend on processor speed , it depends on memory and sound card speed ....
If you have a good (fast) sound card , and not a cheap integrated crappy one , together with good and pretty fast memory , there is no problem ..... then you can work without problems even if you have a celly 500 or so !
for example :
if you have the newest pentium or AMD with a old geforce tnt videocard , you are not able to play he newest games !
If you have the newest pentium or AMD with a resonable graphic card , the game will do better !
That can be compared with crappy integrated soundcards , and quality sound cards that have some processor by itself .
Or the memory story .
Also .... it depends on alot more ..... not all motherboards are the same ... |

i would not agree with this, i have same sound card all the time (creative live) and when i bought new processor i havent saw notice "your cpu cant handle the song" for some months , i belive reason requires quite some procesor power since the way how to get sound out of it isnt same as in other programs, since it is simulation of real thing i mean the wireing. But memory is also important yes, but hard to say how much. |

Well, it does if you have ASIO card...;) And about memory maybe 1GB is enough
